Have you let the delivery company know what happened? They may still be responsible as they didn’t deliver it to you and if you had not asked them to leave it with your neighbour? Personally I would peruse the delivery company so they learn to take responsibility and not ask neighbours etc to do their job for them.
At least it was actually left with somebody and not just dumped in your garden! Last winter I ordered an expensive pair of trainers for my son, from an ebay seller. The seller promised same day dispatch and emailed me to say they had been sent out - they didn't arrive as expected but I gave them an extra few days with it being the very busy run up to Christmas. I was just about to email the seller when my next door neighbour came with a very wet parcel - seems that the Citylink courier driver, finding no-one at home either here or next door, had just dumped the parcel in her garden and not even left a card to say where it was. It then became covered in snow, and she only found it when she went to move some rubbish which had blown over the fence. Fortunately it was well wrapped and only the outside packaging was damaged, but I contacted Citylink straight away and complained, and also contacted the ebay seller to let her know how her dispatches were being treated.
I can understand your frustration and annoyance, especially if the courier firm knows to deliver to your workplace if you're not in, but your neighbours were only being helpful by taking your parcel in. They probably just stood it up against the radiator unthinkingly, not realising that it would get damaged, and they must now feel awful about what happened to it. At least they've offered to pay for a replacement - you don't say how much the tent cost but I bet it wasn't cheap. I think the best you can do - if you've not already done so by now - is contact the delivery company and tell them that any future parcels are to be delivered specifically to your workplace, or you collect them yourself from the depot if that's possible.
