Does anyone know of anyone who services, tests or repairs microwaves in The South East, I have a Samsung Roadchef 12v Microwave installed in a Ford Transit Van which I recently purchased and it does not work, after 50sec of operation it switches off and nothing is hot? I have new 110amp leisure battery, a 140amp VSR (voltage sensor relay), have contacted Samsung direct and they can’t give me a name of anyone.
Or alternatively can anyone recommend a low watt microwave and what wattage inverter should be used.
Have had two replies from two different companies which are totally worlds apart.
Microwave 700watt output, 1200watt input, one recommends 1500watt, the other 3000watt inverter.
Always go for the bigger inverter, that way you cannot overload it, simple rule of thumb! It will not take much if any more current to run, just it has more in reserve when the power starts being used...
------------- Just remember, if it is older than yours, smaller than yours but next to yours, there is probably no credit owing on it...
I have heard of others having similar problems and it was generally thought that the problem was the leisure battery. A 700w microwave requires nearly 60A of power and most leisure batteries can't release the power quick enough to meet the demand - they are designed to give a low power output over a long period. Try running it off your starter battery to see if that works, obviously with the engine running
These Samsungs appear to be grey imports. I'm happy to be corrected on that but when I tackled Samsung about the 12vDC microwaves that is what they told me.
http://www.thewavebox.co.uk/ These things can be run from the cigarette lighter but do note that Wavebox say the socket must be rated at 20A minimum! When run from the cig lighter socker they run at greatly reduced power; another reason to hard-wire them. They are really designed to be hard-wired in place. There is also a provision to use jump lead type connectors but the cable run would have to be very short
The Yotties also have a 12vDC microwave but I can't remember the name of it at the moment.
