We are new caravaners and have a 4 year old Swift Challenger 470. The heater is a Trumatic which works on gas and electricity. My question is when it is on electric it doesn't work unless it is on full(9) whether on the 500, 1000 or 2000 setting. If I turn it down to a lower setting eg.5 it cuts out and never cuts back in again regardless as to how cold it gets and will only come on again if turned back up to full. Is this normal or is our thermostat faulty? We were told that it was a bad design of the caravan but I thought I would check on here just to make sure I wasn't just being fobbed off.

Thanks

Does the thermosstat work when on gas only or with gas and electric together? It can take 30 mins or more to get "up to speed" when on electric only in cold weather. I leave ours on 2000 and adjust with the thermostat when it gets too warm.

My old 2005 Lunar Quasar was exactly the same - the ultraheat only worked on setting 9 unless it wasreally cold!

Tony, we haven't used it on gas, just electric on its own. We have tried it on 2000 setting but it only works when it is set on 9 not on any of the lower numbers, it just cuts out and doesn't cut back in again which made me wonder if the thermostat is faulty.

Your lucky? I read the heading in the 'correct' technical section, I never normally look on here!

Answer is you need a 'remote' thermostat', at the moment the vans temperature is being controlled by wherever the back of your control switch is situated, ie, the wardrobe?

A remote is very easy to fit if you can easily get at the back of your fire, it's a simple jack plug to connect, however if access is difficult then it can mean the gas fire needs to come out!

I supply a remote, infact I devised it and more importantly where to fit the actual sensor, using mine and everything else being up to scratch, you are guaranteed the electric heating will work as you expect...oh, and their 30% cheaper

Thank you Gary for your explanation, it is all clear now, our control does back onto the wardrobe which is very warm. I will get my husband to investigate whether we can get to the back of the heater and order a remote from you if we have easy access to the back of the heater.

Please ignore my e-mail which must have been sent just before you posted.

Thanks again

Cheryl
