Read a few comments on the aerobed but havn`t seen anything about the vango double flocked bed-looking for something durable and higher up than the airbed we currently have (about 5 inch in depth) just curious if any members have either.
Aero double in argos is £55 Vango`s are a fiver cheaper but do have a built in pump decisions decisions
After years of using airbeds I'm a recent convert to SIMs. I haven't camped with them yet but have been testing them out at home, and have found them suprisingly comfortable - I know they're going to be warmer as well. There are a few bargains to be had right now ... Blacks have got a decent looking single for 25 quid. Yeomans have got a thinner double for 35 quid that you could stack one on top of the other with a fitted topper around to hold them together. Just an idea ...
The Coleman Comfort airbeds have had a good reputation in recent years alongside the Aerobeds. We looked at SIMs - but the can take 20 mins plus to inflate - while our Kampa whirlwind rechargeable pump can inflate our double Coleman airbed in less than 1 minute. SIMs may be warmer, but we use fleecy mattress covers from Wilkinsons over our airbeds and they are toasty. SIMs can also get punctures although more hardy than airbeds.
Never thought i would say this being the owner of 2 aerobeds (king size double height with all the whistles and bows)...but I prefer sleeping on my SIM now (7cm vango double)

Hi Helen. I very much agreed with you until recently when I just got sick of having to replace yet another airbed. I bought a couple of Decathlon A300 SIMs in the sale and they come with a 5 year guarantee, and from experience I know Decathlon are outstanding at returns and repairs. Just out of interest (hey, I'm a crazy camper!) I thought I'd try stacking two together, then covering them with my thick fitted mattress topper I used to use on the airbed, and finally the fitted sheet. Well, after 2 nights of listening to the cricket in the living room and testing this set up out I can definitely vouch for the comfort. I thought when stacked they'd end up moving around all the time but they haven't moved an inch. Two more have now been puchased.
I don't know how long they'll take to inflate after they've been stored unfurled, but from being rolled up when purchased they were ready for a couple of top up puffs in about 5 minutes. And it seem that I find them much more comfortable when they're not fully inflated ... but I'm just wierd.
In transit they're going to take up a little more room than the airbeds plus pump, and they do cost a bit more to buy (not that much), but other than that they seem to be a really good option.
Im having the same dilemma this year. We have used airbeds of varying qualities over the years and have yet to find one that actually gives us a bit of comfort. Last year for a week we used the basic Hi-Gear self inflating mattress. I was surprised at how comfortable they were, but the wife wasnt at all keen on it. I dont know if I could tempt her with a thicker, better quality one, or will we finally invest in the aerobed that we've had our eye on. Im watching this thread with interest.

My daughter has a caravan which has an uncomfortable double bed made up from the cushions of the front seats. She bought a luxury mattress topper which is heavy and takes up quite a lot of space when not in use. I was interested to read about the Vango SIM. Would a SIM even out the surface of the bed and give her a better night's sleep?

That sounds like quite a good idea ... although I don't think they're breathable so you'd probably want a topper above the SIM anyway.
