Hi. We have had a roof bag for some years now. It is made from vinyl/rubbery stuff and is extremely useful: strong and totally waterproof, packs down small for storage on site or at home, v easy to use or loan out to friends.
Reading posts on here though it does seem that the quality of roof bags varies enormousely eg some leak like sieves so take care before buying. Hope that helps.

We have looked at the Thule Ranger90 which seems to be about the best in this type of bag,but obviously the most expensive.
I suppose the problem is actually seeing one before ordering online.
As you say quality does vary quite a lot.

I got one of these from santa last year. 
unfortunately i haven't got the roof bars yet ! 
Will let you know when i get them how good/bad they are. LOL

Hi. Well, Thule sounds like a name you could trust! And I can see from the internet that it has taped seams, which sounds like a good sign to me. Ours came from America at a time when the exchange rate was very favourable, so probably not much use to you.

We have something called a HIPPO bag which looks similar.
I DO NOT recommend it as it leaks (through the actual bag and not just the seams)
It would be OK if you could use a dry bag inside, I suppose.

I have the thule bag,it's ok,a bit fiddly,but waterproof so far. It is the type that uses ubolts like a normal roofbox,I would prefer the type that fits with straps. The Dad's Army comment was the best post this year by the way!

I like the concept of them Sue. The idea that you can pack it away at the campsite is fab. Like most others I think it is worth making sure they are waterproof. I'd like one myself.
Here's A link to one on ebay thats quite reasonably priced and fully waterproof.

we use to have a 380L solid Karrite one,but got fed up of finding somewhere to store it.
We just thought a foldaway one would be easier to load as well,as the zip undoes on 3 sides.
We would put all the bedding,soft stuff and a couple of holdalls in it.
We still have the roof bars so we only need a bag.

I have the Thule one - bought it last year from Halfords, when they were having a bit of a sale. I have been extremely happy with it and have certainly not had any leaks. With regard to a previous comment about it being fiddly - I think the "U" bolts work quite well, and hold it firm on my roofbars.
I hope you find what you are after.

I use mine on my camper,which is why I would prefer straps,the u bolts that came with the bag were the easy clamp type and very good,but too fat to use on the camplet. The fiddly thing I find is packing the thing so as to get a good shape,then struggling to zip it up. A box is much easier for this. All in all ,used on the car,with the original clamps,they are ok,but they do have to come off when empty.
