We have been treated to a dvd/digital freeview 9" tv for the tent and look forward to using it this season. When we tried it at home we found that the little stick that comes with it does not suffice as an aerial. We have been to camping shops and also on this site and found some really useful info here, and now know which aerial we shall go for. The only problem is this, we have a tepee and their isn't really anywhere to attach the pole to short of the windbreak (not very practical) Anyone any ideas or advice. Thank you in anticipation
but using a ground post like that you will still need to guy it,
1 guy who comes camping with us just uses a wooden wind break stake knocked into the ground, no guys ect and he has no problem, not a huge hight but it gets a good picture.
------------- If it wont move, try a bigger hammer.
Please remember that sound from your TV will travel a VERY long way on a campsite, especially at night, so it might be wise to invest in some wireless headphones too.
In this day and age you would be better going for a satellite dish for your TV, as Terrestrial Digital does not give as good a coverage as what the old Analog did.
As Helen mentions TV sound can be an issue to others, a good piece of kit is a "Wireless Personal Audio System" which allows you to use the small WalkMan type earphones, so far more discrete than the large HeadPhone type, each user just has a small receiver the size of a fag packet, and you can buy as many receivers as you wish.
We got ours from www.cpc.co.uk the part number is AV15935 cost around £25 and £15 for each extra receiver.
Thank you all for your help, we will ensure we keep the sound to ourselves, that is of course if we finally manage to get the arial and pole secure. Thank you to the poster who sent the link for the screw/post holder it looks viable.
wicks sells aerials and poles, i attach my pole to my trailer otherwise suggest you make small hole and bury pole so it dont fall over, can't think of how else you could do it

Ours was a B&Q cheapie kit and we secure ours to the A frame of the trailer. We used to use a ground stake to secure our flag pole so it's probably doable. Tie it to the wheel or bumper of the car if you're worried about it falling over.
We use an ordinary high gain aerial, it folds down flat and more importantly doesn't need to be powered. Most of the smaller caravan aerials need power which can be an issue if you have limited sockets (or in our case when we power off a leisure battery and small solar panel).
Satellites are fine but will our course require power for the receiver which again may be an issue.
We find having a fairly large TV aerial seems to stop people pitching near us - we camp on CS's where there is usually only one or two tents on a large field but sods law says that someone will come and pitch 5 feet away when they've got the whole field to chose from. They seem to do this less often when we've got the TV aerial up!
(we are very careful and use headphones not to interfere with others and anyway OH only uses it occasionally - he's dyslexic and doesn't find reading enjoyable so likes the TV on every couple of days)
The OP asked about TV ariels, not about how much noise the telly would put out, im sure they are responsible and grown up enough to realise that the sound can travel. Come on folks there is no need for this. Can we live and let live PLEASE?
As for advice.
We use a small telescopic ariel with built in amplifier. Its quite effective, but you do have to plug it into the mains. I know that the freeview signal is getting "turned up" in digital only areas, so you might find the little ariel you have might do the job. Failing that, what about making your own from a small roof ariel and a length of coax.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.

Quite!! When you have been on these forums a few years the whole TV debate does get a bit tiresome - not getting at anyone in particular but ......
Away from the aerial and pole we always used the Maplin one for all and its pretty good if theres a signal to be had it normally will get it - there was only one time we couldn't get a good signal and that was because we were pretty close to a pilon.

Hi Piglet, I have spent ages researching a suitable aerial for our 'van and have just seen your post - please could you let me have more details of your aerial, as the ability to fold it down flat would be really useful for us!
