We are looking for a cooler or cooler/freezer, for use on gas (and 12V/2230V).

We have found the Dometic RC 1180(G05-15), but found it a bit pricy. Anyone who any experience to share?

If we go for just a cooler, is the Dometic RC 1200 a good choice. Will this one work in hot summer weather?

Other produts it'a worth lookin into?

Best regards

The Dometic RC1200 is only specified to cool 20 degrees C below ambient - that's hardly a fridge in a 30 degree summer.

You need an RC2200 with ability to cool 32 degrees C below ambient.

Personally we use a WAECO compressor fridge CDF35, only works on electricity, but can operate as a freezer even in 38 degree C weather.

I think that cools to 30 degrees below ambient.

High price for old model, just because of wheels.

We use the dometic rc 1700 claims to go 30deg below ambient,in Norfolk last year we had 32c with 35c in the utility tent and it made ice cubes so i guess it does what it says on the box,a word of warning dont put anything at the top near the ice cube tray as it can freeze we froze the cucumber,on the plus side though we could freeze bottles of water to put in the cool bag with the food when we went out for the day.

they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping

a bad days camping is better than a good day at work

I'm also looking for the fridge I would prefer the absorption modell and I don't need gas option, if some one knows a web store in UK please but the link.
I have looked Campingaz Powerbox 36 Classic Coolbox but I'm not happy with peltier system and only 12v option, ok there is a ac/dc adaptor but still that would be an extra item. The size is fine and price too. Royal 3 Way Absorbtion Cooler 40 Litre would be very nice but the price isn't. It is much cheaper than they are here in Finland but £170 is a lot... or is it?

Hi jd69dj.
We decided to go for a compressor type fridge, instead of the absorbtion type, wasn't bothered about Gas power as we always camp with EHU, and a lieusure battery for backup.

Back in 2008 we got a brand new in the box Waeco CF25 of pre-loved for £150 it was a lucky find at the price, and was still sealed in it's original packaging.

Anyway what can I say, it works superb and has been on two trips to Southern France with us, for our fortnight camps in July, so it's just about paid for itself, by not having to hire a fridge on site.

You can set it to any temp you like, down as low as -18DegC if you need to freeze, we just keep it at +2DegC which works fine, the fridge fits well in the boot of our VW Golf, so gets used on the 3 day journey down to Southern France.

We also were looking at fridges and felt that the cost of the 3 way units was too much. So we went the same route as suggested above and bought a cheap tabletop fridge. Ours came from Currys, cost about £70 two years ago, and it's been brilliant. There's a small ice compartment too.

The only minor complaint is that it makes a few odd noises from time to time. But hey- it's a cheap compression fridge, it isn't going to be totally silent.

Hi jd69dj.
The WAECO CF25 is expensive new, and at the time I was considering a WAECO CAB-40 (GREY) which cools a little better than the Blue model, it was just the size that put me of, far to big for us, especialy as at the time I did not use a trailer for camping, then the WAECO CF25 came along at the same price, so for me it was a no brainer.

I got the accesories of Ebay Power Supply and Thermal jacket, all new at very good prices, and noticed quite a few firms were doing refurbed CF25's at well below list price.
