I tow a trailer tent, and want to transport two bikes on the car. The rack i have allows the bikes to contact the trailer box when cornering. Anyone know of a rack system that will allow the bikes to sit high enough to clear the trailer? and will fit an estate car.I would rather not put them on the roof of the car if possible.

Hello cycloneranger.
I use a Halfords one, it is a high mount version, would this be suitable?

Kind regards James

254This is what we have - a brilliant bit of kit! Holds 4 adults bikes and can tow a tt. You can get an extra height bit so that gives ample clearance when towing a tt with a front box. Ours is a Maxx Raxx Premier  -  for a Westfalia Swan Neck Demountable tow bar . If interested, let us know as we have changed cars and bikes so ours is up for sale!

Thanks for the quick replies!

The more i look at it the more i think a am going to need a roof mount....the lads bike has no cross bar, so that opens up a new can of worms.

I have a fixed ball tow ball, so i don't think your Maxxraxx system will work, but I'll take a look at their web site.

Thanks again

Jeff.

hi

just a note on towball mounted bike carriers you have to be carefull of your nose weight because the carrier and bikes will count towards it.

I have a Maxxraxx two bike carrier fitted to a fixed towbar. You mount a support bracket behind the towbar, then you can attach / detach the tack in about two minutes. It also swings down to let you open the hatch. I believe they also do a bar for bikes with no crossbar. Great product.

Can you get bars for your trailer tent? you could then fit bike carriers to the bars same as car roof bars, I've seen this on TTs so its possible Conway supply the parts required.

Refering to Tentz suggestion, mounting the bikes on the TT was my prefered method when we had our Cabanon Atlantis. Tried 'em on the roof and a rear mounted rack (not enough clearance with 'A' frame mounted chest on TT), but once stuck on the TT with the proper framework, this worked a treat. Also, if you ever dispense with taking bikes you can still use the rack for other awkward loads.
Worth looking into the costs in my opinion.
