Make sure it's cut slightly smaller than the tent so that the water doesn't run underneath and sew some tape to the corners for pegging. Buying the footprint for our tent is the best thing we ever did!!

Try having a look at this website.
I've bought groundsheets from here to use a footprint rather than a cut down tarp as already has pegging points, etc. As said already, make sure it is slightly smaller than your tent.

They dont do specific FootPrints for my Tent with ZiG, so a lucky find in B&Q got me a dozen or so 4mx5m dark green tarps, at £2 each, cheap enough to chuck in the bin if they get to messy.
Also for rough ground we have a 12ftx15ft Butyl Rubber 1mm thick Pond Liner, kindly given to me by a landscape gardener friend, you can buy the Butyl from pond shops at around 50p per sq ft.

Vango also do some universal PE groundsheets in different sizes. We use one of these for two of our tents and just fold under the excess. I think we paid about a tenner for one 3m x 4m early last year. We peg down where the pegging points are visible and just use the weight of the tent itself elsewhere. Doesn't move.
Just bought a dedicated one though for the irregular shaped Kairos 400 to speed up the pitch - should shave a minute or so .
