Hello everyone
We are looking for a new lantern and have found good reviews for the following small ones:
Alpkit Bulb II, and
Silverpoint Exhibition 100

They look like the same lantern. Has anyone got either or had any experience with these. They use a 3W cree LED.

Alternatively we are looking at the slightly larger ones:
Silverpoint Hercules Cree or Urban Escape. Again they seem to be the same light but with different brands.

Any help with helping to decide between the smaller or larger would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently, these can provide enough light for a large-ish tent (we have an Outwell Montana 6) and can be hung from the roof.

Thanks
Victoria

Hi Victoria.
Just last week I picked up a couple of the Lidl Cree LED torches at £9.99 each, at around 150 lumen they are super bright for a single LED torch, so I would imagine the lanterns you mention are well bright.

The Lidl torch's run of 3 x "AAA" batteries and give a good run time of around 4 hours on full tilt.

Andy.

These sound very similar. We have a Lidl near us so we will check them out.
Cheers

The best place for Cree torches at the moment is Ebay. Unfortunately they are all imports from Hong Kong or China but I have bought a pair of 300 lumen zoomable cree Torches for £11. They are nearly as good as my P7 Lenser torch and thats saying something.

yes its difficult to justify spending £40 on a European unit like a Lenser when the Asian market is producing Q5 Cree torches at 1/3 of the price.

Hi Nigel.
I guess it's only a matter of time before these Cree type torches hit the uk market on mass, meanwhile the bicycle shops/distributors are raking it in charging around £200 or more for a half decent Cree type front light.

I did have a look on Ebay, and may go for the "Magicshine bicycle light" although there are various incarnations of that lamp for around £50 inc delivery from Hong Kong.

At 900 Lumens or more, I guess that would be as bright as most folk would need for a bike like, quite amazing that a single Cree led can be so bright.

Andy.

900 lumens will be extremely bright. I have 2 300 lumen torches on the front of my bike and they give bags of light. As a side issue my wife who always worries about me commuting to work on the bike has bought me a Samui 3 air horn which is unbelievable. It s great to give the white van man a blast when they cut you up and see their shock wondering where the noise came from.
