Me again

Sorry....

I need to buy a camping friedge that will hook up to mains electricity too but I have no idea where to start so I would love any advice.
Actually I need any advice on anything to buy.

Wwhen we bought the tent and first went camping we got standard things with it so we know now we need:

Cooker stand with storage -  which one is best
Table - with or without storage
Chairs - comfy and one that will hold a 6ft 7 hubby
Blow up beds
Storage for clothes
Heaters?

Anything else you can think off I may have missed! We have cookng bits and washing up bits including stand and lights etc

Wwe're going away for a week and I want to be sure we have everything we need, there will be myself, hubby and a 3 year old!

xx

We bought a tent last Autumn and have been gradually buying the bits we need for camping trips since then...we're pretty much the same family set up as you except our LO is 4!

So far we've got -

tent
tent porch (to use as a kitchen area)
standard low up bed (for hubby)
double height air bed for me (I don't like sleeping so close to the ground!)
Ready bed for LO
Assortment of lights - plug in, wind up, rechargeable, gas, UFO
a kitchen stand (we bought the Kampa Colonel one, it looks really good but we haven't tested it out as yet)

http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1428744-10475506?url=http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Kampa_Colonel_Outdoor_Kitchen_Unit.html

We were given a camping stove, it's a basic 2 burner one with grill

We got a pan set and kettle as a Christmas gift, I've also bought a non stick frying pan and all sorts of kitchen utensils...

sleeping bags - hubby's got a mummy style one, I've got a gelert xl pod as I feel claustrophobic in mummy style bags, we'll also take a couple of fleecy blankets, and some fitted fleecy mattress covers and if I can find some, some foil backed picnic rugs to go under the air beds

tables - we were given a small folding one, and we've bought 2 larger folding ones, 1 for in the kitchen area and the other for inside the tent to sit round

fridge - we've bought an igloo passive coolbox (today!)

We're not bothering with clothes storage, as there's only so much the car will take, we'll have a spare sleeping pod, so we'll use that as storage area - both for clean and dirty clothes, and packing stuff

We haven't got a heater as yet, we'll need something though as we're going camping over Easter, I don't know whether to go for an electric one (I've heard these can trip the EHU?) or a butane one, we saw one for £25 in Winnfields so we might get one of those.

We haven't got an EHU yet, that's next on my list, the only other thing we really need is chairs, I like these, they're really comfy, I tried one in Winnfields

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350440256159&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I know you can get cheaper ones, but if you're going to be sat in them for 7-10 days or longer, they need to be comfy!

LO has got a small folding chair which we bought from Wilkos for a fiver, he loves it!

I can't think of anything else...the garage seems to be full of stuff though, how it will fit in the car remains to be seen lol

most camping shops will do what you need,(i use towsure) they do a selection of different fridges, all different shapes and sizes,as for the beds id go for the ones with a "no leak system" all the ones i have had with that system do tend to stay up,mine is a coleman queen bed and i've had a camping gaz one aswell and they both stay up.as for a heater id go for a fan heater but other people go for halogen,i think its just a matter of preference.

hope this has given you some ideas.

Hi JellyTart & welcome to the forum

If you go for a 3-way fridge (about £150 new, or less second hand off ebay), you won't be limited to sites with electric hook up, as you can run it off gas too.

Now, if you're going to run the fridge off electric, you will need to buy a proper EHU unit. So, you may as well get an electric fan heater for quick heat, and something quieter for overnight heat if you go early or late season - something like a skirting heater (Argos), a convector heater, or a small oil filled radiator.

We have this & it does the job well, also folds flat, we just added 2 sturdy MDF shelves which stay in when packed.

cooker stand

We also got 2 directors chairs but the slightly over sized ones with a higher back that slopes away from you for comfort. They have a chunkier frame & bigger seat too.

Got ours from Camperlands but seen them in several different makers names but all the same, they also have tubes along the bottom so no feet digging into the groundsheet.

Hi all

just quick question about the frdge/coolbox.  Anyone used the coleman 70 quart coolbox?  It seems alot cheaper than some of the others.  Tried towsure as mentioned above and the coleman is only £70.  we're tempted as stocking up for summer hols but seem to be spending alot of money and not sure wether to take a chance on cheaper brand!

Any advice welcome

hi all,

i bought a fridge 20 litre  from argos last year which i'm still very happy with, its like a mini version as a normal one  with a shelf and a door compartment and a handle  on top to carry.. its has two leads one for in the car and the other with a three pin plug..it has a very quiet motor which is ideal in a tent and it can run all the time no need to switch it  off not  like some i was looking at. My friend whos a camper bought the same one and she likes hers....

 check it out!!!

Because its a front loader, every time you open it all the cold air escapes but with a top loader it stays in ( cold air sinks) plus the chest style ones can be packed better with frozen stuff in the bottom, chilled on top & it doesnt all fall out when you open it, also seen these type for a lot less.
