Last night I read a post about the above portable toilet on here and have since been trying to convince my husband that we should get one too. I would like to get one for two reasons namely, we have two young children and I am not keen on using public loos. We have a spare bedroom in our tent in which to house it. My husband is concerned that it will smell. We are newbies so far as camping is concerned and would appreciate knowledgable advice! Thanks
There are chemicals that you mix with the water in your tanks. One tank holds the flush mix and the other tank is for the soiled waste. We only use ours for passing of water I wouldn`t use it or empty it for anything else.the flush keeps it smelling nice so dont worry about that.Hope this helps.Cheers.Alex
As I have posted else where on these forums when it comes to porta potties we know what we are on about, we have Dometic in the campervan, Thetford in the caravan and a Elsan visa 268 which is in daily use as a bedside commode (due to illness). The Dometic in the camper is used weekly, and since our caravan has been stored on my sisters drive for the past year, her eldest has taken up residence in caravan (teenage rebellious independence).
Over the years we tried Campingaz Fiamma and one or two others, after about a year each of them had developed faults or leaks. I accept that our use is above and beyond most campers but just trying to let you benefit from our exhaustive testing.
We put a Thetford side by side with a Fiamma Bi Pot at the weekend (sad, I know!) and the pull-forward lever (to empty contents into the lower chamber) on the Thetford was miles easier to operate than the Fiamma, which stuck and was difficult to do. The Thetford lever was free-running and easy.
We already have a Thetford, never had any problems with it, but were considering getting the smaller Fiamma to save on space and for weekends. We won't now bother, but are looking for a bargain Thetford 135 instead (so if anyone knows where there's a good deal?).
Maybe so, but it was a devil; I ended up having to brace the loo with one hand and try to pull against it (wouldn't actually fancy doing that if it had been used!) We even took it apart, to inspect the mechanism, and it wouldn't even pull open easily then. The Thetford just slid out easily, no problem.
It put me off, anyhow, but I'll admit it might have been a one-off. I'll stick with Thetford.
