You don't have to use the Cobb brand accessories - just find a wok/pan/whatever that fit in or on the Cobb and you're away. I keep mentioning the Hairy Bikers as Cobb experts but if you see any of their programs you'll see them with saucepans etc just sitting over the fire basket. The extension ring is useful if you're wanting to roast big chickens, etc but you don't need it for smaller pieces of meat. You will need a rack though, otherwise you'll burn it.
The main benefit of the Cobb accessories though is that they all fit in the Cobb bag (bit of a krypton factor challenge at first but they do go in!)
Definitely not a cheap bit of kit but I for one wouldn't be without mine.
