Hi, I've just bought a new tent and want to keep it in as good as condition as possible. Usually I use a plastic tarp underneath to give extra protection against missed stones and the like.

I'm planning on getting an open weave one for extra comfort and thermal protection. Given its going to be under a sewn in groundsheet does it make any difference which brand I go for?

Breathable groundsheets have slight seconds which would save me 30% - am thinking this would be the way to go.

Thanks

also the tarp/footprint is also there to keep mud and water from off the underside of the groundsheet (in an ideal world that is), but the breathable groundsheet wont stop the water and mud from coming into contact with the underside of your tent,

The choice is yours, and using a breathable one wont help the grass the fitted sig would cover the grass also,

If it wont move, try a bigger hammer.

Have you thought about putting the breathable gs it on top of your SIG & use the tarp or pond liner under your SIG?

Our breathable gs is very comfy, our new TT has a ZIG so we will be keeping our Ds & using it as carpet.

Or use the tarp/footprint underneath and buy a fitted carpet for inside

Hello svogel75.
   And welcome to UK Campsites.

I use Breathable open weave ground mats under the SIG of my tents.

I agree, if you're on a muddy pitch your SIG will get muddy.

But they do provide more protection from stones and twigs, and acts as a thermal barrier.

Feels more comfortable under foot.

Quiet in use.

Stay put in a breeze.

Kind regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.
