Just one note to those that said the ashes dropped through the bottom and burned the grass - You should have been using a fire blanket - They are not dear.
I bought the ASDA folding BBQ - it is ok - the only trouble is they are a bit low and not too much cooking area. I have used it as a small fire-pit after as well.
PS - A mate of mine has a bigger one (BBQ I mean) but had it years and can't remember where he got it.
i have the small outwell one. yes the paint peels after first use and yes it does warp a little (more noticeable when hot but cools down almost to normal, its fine) but its great. still fits in the original box for storage.
can't cook a lot in one go but it managed 4 adults 5 kids every evening for a week on one bag of ready lite charcoal stuff…. and after, a burning log thing for marshmallows. its had a fair bit of use. doesn't drip fat and any charcoal that gets thru can be swept away in the morning
The Outwell Cervon is preposterously expensive but ticks all the boxes: robust, no paint to flake off, adjustable grill height, plus you can remove the grill mid-cook and it will stand up off the ground on its own supports - meaning you can easily adjust the fire. It sits on a sheet base so there's no trouble with hot embers burning the grass.
I've used the same one a lot... The key I find is not to over load it with coals, infact I use two rows of brickets with a row balanced and spaced on top of the first two rows. I also only make the rows 2/3 of the way a long the BBQ leaving me a section of grill at the end that has no brockets so I have an area of the upper cooking grill where there is no direct heat below it.
