We are new to caravanning and, before taking delivery of our Bailey Orion in May, I'm getting a few things together for our first trip. We already have a Cobb for BBQ days when the weather's nice but I don't know whether to get Remoska or a slow cooker for cooking inside. I have large versions at home and use them both but I really can't decide which would be more useful in a caravan. What do you think?
For me a slow cooker is the best as I can set it up in the morning and go out and when I eventually get back it is all nicely cooked. As they only use about 200 watts they dont have a knock on effect if have a low ampage supply or are using other electrical equipment. I keep mine stored inside a foam cool bag that fits perfectly in one of my cupboards. Argos have slow cookers from about £6 upwards.

Got to agree with that
------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
Lakeland in Windsor had all the Remoskas and accessories at 50% off last week. Not sure if all Lakeland have the same deal as I also got a half price cobb buth when some people tried their local Lakeland they were still full price. But worth a few phone calls to your local branches maybe just to see.
You can bake in it, fry in it, cook ANYTHING infact. We've got the Grande Remoska, cost over a 100quid, but there are 6 of us and it has been used over and over again. It takes abit of practice to get to grips with it....but sooooo worth it.
I usually cook something in it to take with us...stew or lasange. Plug it in while we are doing the setting up, then dinner's ready! Or put something in and use a timer if we're going out for the day. Its just like a mini over, but pot shaped lol

I always used to use my slow cooker in our caravan when we had one. Now just starting up camping again & my slow cooker & George foreman grill will be being used.
I like the look of the Remoska but at over £100 i think i will stick with my slow cooker.

Do you use the Remoska or the slowcooker more at home? Like you I have both in my kitchen. I use the slowcooker regularly, but use the Remoska far more because it is more versatile. Can't see any reason why my usage habits would be different when camping or in a van, so for me it would be the Remoska.

Do you use the Standard or the Grand Ramoska, MT? Would you say the Standard is okay for three people? Do you use it as a mini oven?
Hi. My Remoska is the standard size one. Yes, its like a mini oven which cooks everything at a standard 180 (or is it 190?) degrees. I use mine loads at home, either instead of switching the 'proper' oven at home for just me or for other stuff. I think that if I was going to be regularly using it for three people I'd be inclined to buy the Grand size.
When I bought my Remoska I was recommended to buy the rack with it, which I did and it is useful. With the rack you can eg bake fish and potaoes on top of the rack and veg underneath, or cook something on it which you want to brown more, eg pizza, closer to the main heat source.
The pan has a very good nonstick , easy clean surface too.
The downsides of a Remoska for camping is that its an awkward shape for packing and transporting, its ehu only and you have to be careful what you do with the v v hot lid when you take it off the pan at the end of cooking. But if you can cope ok with those aspects then its areally useful option to consider.

Thanks All, that's really useful. I too use the Remoska more than the slow cooker so I guess a Remoska it is! I use the Grand at home for three of us but there will be just two when we are in the caravan so I shall get the standard size.

Have you ever thought of a halogen oven?? I used to have a Remoska but when my husband bought the halogen I was well and truely converted - much quicker to cook, everything is tender and nice, it cleans itself etc etc. I now have one at home and one that lives in the caravan all the time (bought from Robert Dyas for £30). I cant recommend one enough. The Remoska is going on EBay next week as I know I will never use it again.

I have got the grand remoska, and bought the additional shallow pan & rack. When cooking I keep the extra pan out on the side on a protective surface and when I need to remove the lid I sit it in the spare one, there are no problems with burning surfaces then.
I use both at home but only take a slow cooker in my caravan - the remoska takes up too much bench space as I always need somewhere to put the lid as its too heavy for me to hold (we have the grande one)as we only have a tiny kitchen
