Hi

I have a Bailey Ranger 550/6 with a Dometic fridge and normally cool it down using a mains connection before commencing holiday. I would like to cool it down before hand using gas but does anyone know how long it takes to cool a fridge using gas?

I've heard that they are much more efficient being run on gas, is this true?

Thanks

Nei

Hi, I have the same van as you, and looking at your profile not a million miles away from you either!

We used our fridge on gas once at a festival, cant remember the timings but i do remember it cooled down very quickly on a raosting hot day.

I think the recomendation is if you need it cool very quickly, to use both gas and electric.

Many thanks TKMAXX

We'll pop up the storage place at the weekend and give it a try on just gas then try both when away next.

We're in Lordswood so we'll probably see you darting around!

In our latest van we have, for the first time, has a Thetford fridge. We usually leave the fridge on before we go but one day when it was very hot and sticky I could not get it to cool on electric but when I put it on gas it started to cool quite quickly.

Where do you store ihategherkins?

I list as Maidstone as thats where everyone knows but actually in Walderslade Woods. Mines at Woolmans Wood at the top of BBH.

Just seen another post from you saying your at Nil Desperandum. If you dont mind, can i ask some questions:

- Whats it like there compared to Woolmans wood?

- Is it genuine 24 hour access?

- Via a fob like Woolmans?

- Did it make any difference to your insurance?

- Are there caravan washing facilities there?

- Is the EHU to charge the battery etc?

- Do you know if they have space?

- Can I have their number please?!

Think thats about it!

Ta.

Gas seems to be quicker than electric!

Why use your gas to cool it down though? I simply cool mine down with some ice blocks packed in around the food, anything for the next few days is frozen and also cools the fridge down. All goes from the house fridge with ice blocks from the freezer into the fridge in the van on the day of departure and I switch on either ehu or gas depending on what's available when I've got there and pitched up. Easy peasy!

I don't even use the 12v whilst travelling as I don't have twin electrics on my car.. but everything stays nice and cool just using the fridge as a coolbox.

Hi. I don't know about your fridge, but my oldie specifically warns you NOT to use on both gas and electric at the same time. I don't know why though. The water heater (carver Cascade 2) allows you to use both 2to facilitate a faster warm up".

TKMAXX

- Whats it like there compared to Woolmans wood?

Tons better in our experience although security is much stronger and as such it can take about 5-10 mins getting through all the gates (which in my opinion isnt a bad thing.)

By the end of this year David there is going to automate more of the gates though so just the final one to the caravans is a key.

- Is it genuine 24 hour access?

Yes, when I asked if we could pick up at 3am one morning he was startled why I would even need to ask.

- Via a fob like Woolmans?

no, at present a swipe card and 2 keys. Swipe for pneumatic barrier to open, drive to first gate and key open, then to secong gate and seperate key to open. There's more security and CCTV than you can shake a stick at as the place is also a lorry park.

- Did it make any difference to your insurance?

no, they are not casoaa registered

- Are there caravan washing facilities there?

none at persent although if you need water they will get it for you. By mid summer they are installing toilets, electricity and water supply for the caravan storage area.

- Is the EHU to charge the battery etc?

as above

- Do you know if they have space?

When I joined a few months ago there was a list of 40 people waiting on a list on his door. Having said that both myself and my brother in law made the effort to call him and arrange a visit and within a week we were both in nice new spaces he had made. Seems if you show genuine interest they will assist any way they can.

- Can I have their number please?!

Call David on 01634 684291 / 07891 338289

We paid £380 for the year, significantly less than WW
