I wasn't moaning about it not having a back light - I just pointed out that I do most of my reading when camping, when I am in bed at night and I am not on ehu so it's either a torch or a lantern. I've had head torches on, I've had ordinary torches wedged up on my pillow, I've had led lights hanging from the zip of the bed pod with bungee cords. I've tried book lights - (the one I got free with my Quishions just didn't light enough of the page).
So it's not quite a simple as just putting the light on and if it hasn't got some way of easily lighting it so I can read at night, then it's a waste of money for me.
I will investigate the lighted cover.
That was the only thing that got me with my Kindle - not being able to read it after dark without needing the lights on (if that makes sense)
I bought a little clip on light (a Belkin one but there are lots out there) and it's great . I can read at night without having to disturb anyone else.
It's great being able to read on a bright summers day too
I wasn't convinced by them at all in the beginning as I love books but now I wouldn't be without it.. As already said it just goes in my bag or pocket and comes everywhere with me.
I cant recommend the lighted cover enough, expensive but I considered it the price of a night out, well worth it. Just waiting for the lighted cover for new kindle to come into stock.
go away to Devon tomorrow downloaded all my books to my kindle. looking forward to nice relaxing family holiday. all the moaning the wife has done I eventually gave in and bought her one. so now we have 2 amazing bits of kit.

I bought a KOBO Touch a couple of months ago. Wasn't too sure about eReaders but I'm converted.
The KOBO Touch is a nice bit of kit and runs the Kindle very close with the advantage of being cheaper and being able to download books in multi-formats meaning you can easily borrow Ebooks from the library service.
MY KOBO was £53.99 in a Staples deal and included a free Russell Hobbs toaster which is off to university with my daughter.
Make sure you download the excellent Calibre eBook application and by adding in a particular plug in you can convert Kindle books including those protected with DRM (Digital Rights Management).
I have a kindle and love it...I'm a menace for going through the cheap books they have and buying loads...the only problem I find is that you can't share a book, so can't 'lend' one to someone like you could with a paper book.
I'm currently reading a thick paperback that I've borrowed off my Dad and find it so cumbersome to hold.
that's the kindle fully loaded for this year's trip to Devon & cornwall and relax

You're probably right, I already have an iPad. Does the paperwhite have a backlight?

Nooo! Steel-Don't get a fire had, you'll never end up using it for reading with all that other stuff on Kindle paperwhite all the way
We have 3 paper whites in our house and the beauty of them is the kids can all read their books at Nightime without other lights being on, or when camping as it has a backlight built in. It's much more natural and not a glaring light either, perfect!
Yes, you can dim the light very easily but it doesn't seem to drain any battery and is much mrie of a natural highlighting effect. The pages just stay like a book page, there is no strain from any bright light anywhere or glare, definitely the best kindle and the most perfect one for camping.
