I'm thinking about buying a Cadac Carri Chef but I'm wondering what gas I can use with it.
We currently have a butane cylinder in the caravan and would prefer not to have to purchase a second one due to both the additional rental cost and the weight.
we have used both on ours ,at the moment were using the orange, simply because its better in cold weather but all depends on the regulator you get, thats all tou have to chainge.
Hi Sarah, we're after one of these to. There seems to be two versions, a high and low pressure unit. I don't suppose you or anyone else knows what the difference is?
the HP ones use a disposable screw on type cannister like the suitcase stoves, the LP ones runoff a gas cylinder such as Calor or Campingaz. I guess it depends on how much sapce you have to carry the cylinder. The kit to connect a LP bottle will be more expensive in the short term, but will be much cheaper in the long run that the throw away cylinders.
Tesco are doing 20% off camping equipment until sunday and you can use code TDX-KMAW (£10 off £50 spend) to bring it down to £50.20 delivered (3% Quidco cashback too). Unfortunately you can't have it delivered to store but £50's still cheap for the LP model
Just realised you're after the Carri Chef which seems to be out of stock at the mo
We have the HP safari chef for camping as we didnt want to carry a big bottle around. For those of you thinking about buying the LP version it DOES NOT come with a regulator or hose

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Thanks for your responses. Its good to hear that it will work with my existing Butane cylinder. Saves me the cost of renting an additional bottle or have to consider the additional weight.
The Tesco one was in stock on Friday but now its pay day they have sold out - typical! Will keep looking, sure there will be other offers around in the next few months.
Don't forget that if you have an outside gas point on your caravan that you can run it off that.
Personally, I use a small Camping Gaz cylinder because you can then move the barbecue about if you want to. ( Not whilst lit of course )
Sadly we don't have an external gas point - far to costly to get one installed too Suppose the positive side to this is we can move our BBQ wherever we like.
We put off getting a Cadac last year as we already have a portable gas BBQ. We found the griddle plate great for breakfasts & it cooks a mean baked spud - but the cost of the disposable cylinders is silly, especially as they last 2 days max.
I also use a campingaz 907 cylinder. You can get them cheaply off ebay, freecycle and sometimes even at the local tip. Mine has cooked over a hundred meals since I had it filled in March 2008 and since i used to use it in my TT many of those used two burners plus grill. I'm pretty sure it weighs less than a propane/butane cylinder, too. The biggest advantage would be not having to disconnect your caravan supply and lift the cylinder about each time. Since, I assume, you would have to buy hose and regulator anyway to use the cylinder from your van that cost makes no difference. For me, having to do disconnect and move it would mean I got less use out of the cadac which would be a shame.
you just put your postcode in and select a 'search radius' and it will bring up everything for sale on ebay within that radius that is 'buyer to collect' you can then select items from the left hand menu in the usual ebay way.
