Hi, new to the forum and just getting back into tenting (more expensive than I originally estimated!) and was looking at getting a double burner & grill thingy. I have seen online a Campingaz Chef that was looking to order this week, then, I saw the GoOutdoors cat and on the front they have a Hi Gear one similar.
Now I like the Campingaz Chef, but I also like the Hi Gear stove, which one is best? Only one way to find out.......................................... ask!
Anybody got any positive or negative feedback on either? They are both a similar price (around £20 or so)so it's down to opinions really.
I would also like to know this. I seen on gooutdoors that their higear elite double burner and grill is now £19.99 it seems a fab price but not sure if it will be a one use only before we would need to get something else! As a newbie to camping have to get everything so dont want to spend loads until I know whats right for us or not.

Where have you seen the Campingaz with grill for £20? Id personally get the Campingaz, as the quality will be better if the prices are similar!
I looked at the HI-Gear one last year and seemed a bit flimsy in comparison...
Tesco had Camping Gaz with grill last week instore only I think for £24.00. I was in today and they only had double hob for that price, wonder if they priced them wrong week before.

Got my CampinGaz Chef, brand new in the box c/w reg and hose for £20 back in 2008, then spent another £10 on the carry bag from Blacks.
For the money I can't fault it, two burners and a grill, what more do you need.
From memory I paid more for my MSR Pocket Rocket single burner back packing stove lol.
You really are good at sniffing out the deals, I must say!
Ive held both the Hi Gear and the Camping Gaz in my hands, and in my humble opinion..... The Camping Gaz wins on quality. It`s far better made, that`s why I bought one.
------------- You don`t stop playing `cos you get old, you get old `cos you stop playing!
We got the Campingaz Kitchen Extra with its integral stand, griddle, 2 burners, windshields/side shelves and storage bag option early last year. Several retailers were selling them for little more than others were selling just the basic 2 burner Campingaz stove. The grills are rated by some and slated by others - so we ignored the grill option and use the griddle and the folding single slice toaster! We paid about £45 quid for the lot (even though the retail price was in the region of £100 and some sellers were charging in that region)
Having the integral stand with adjustable legs and under shelf means that the stove is stable, there is no risk of it being knocked off a kitchen unit and avoids us having to lug along a kitchen unit. My husband loves it and he does all the cooking
We only use this unit when camping in the big tent (4 days or more) as the big gas cannister and the stove does take up car space (which may be a consideration in the choice of stove). For the smaller tents we use 2 suitcase stoves and backpacker tables.
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
Consider if you really need the grill part of the Campingaz Chef. It's not a huge amount of use in my opinion (the grill bit is really small so you can't even grill two bits of bread without constantly turning them round) and it makes the unit much bigger.
For this year, i've switched to a Kampa 3 hob stove - 3 burners (very handy) and in a slimmer unit. Only £24 (plus shipping) too.
We have the Campingax Camping Kitchen Plus and having the attached legs (adjustable for bumpy ground) makes it very stable. Plus, as its all one lightweight unit its very easy to move around eg. moving between inside/outside depending on the weather.

I like the look of the Kampa 3 burner but (and maybe I am being a bit thick here), the middle burner is small and looks as though it sits right at the back of the unit rather than in the middle like the other 2. As the stove's lid is directly behind the middle ring, how would you fit a pan on there? Doesn't look as though there is room to put anything on there.
Would be interested to know as I like the idea of having a 3 ring stove.
We also have the camping gaz kitchen, love the cupboard that doubles as a storage bag and if only going for a short break you can just take the actual cooker without legs.
