We use a fan heater but it depends on the site's supply and the type of heater you're planning to use.
We have a Khyam Ontario 8 and a small fan heater with variable thermostat, frost protection and safety cut out. We find we only need to use the 1kw setting and have the heat set at about half. This is more than enough to heat the tent and at the beginning and end of the season (March and October) we have been known to leave it on all night - the heater then trips on and off throughout the night as necessary.
Plenty of layers and blankets, insulating the airbeds/SIMs and good quality sleeping bags will keep you all warm much better than trying to heat the whole tent.
Happy camping - enjoy your trip away.
