We tried our Cadac BBQ plate for the first time yesterday and loved it - the food cooked nicely and did not take ages - the only problem that we found is that the food stuck to the surface and burnt which in turn burnt out food - am I doing something wrong??

Hello Emma

We have a cadac and have had problems with the griddle / flat plate. It was supposed to be non stick and our food stuck to it and burnt and then all the surface flaked off when we tried to clean it.

We contacted Cadac and within two days they had sent us a new one which we have just tried and it works perfectly.

The surface is fine when we cleaned it - we have used the flat plate to cook pancakes and they didn't stick so think that it must be okay - just wondered how I could stop food burning to the BBQ plate.

We had problems with our BBQ plate - food sticking/burning and it was a devil to clean.  It was this one.  I contacted Cadac who said they would replace it.  Unfortunately they sent the more expensive reversable grill plate.  As the grill plates are twice the price to buy, I decided to keep the freebee and ordered one of the Chrome Grids from Towler & Staines.  It's so much better than the original dark tin one and does the job for us.

I bought a cadac mini chef (runs from canisters) and tried it at weekend. Used the plate which is flat on one side and griddle on the other.
No problems and cooked food really well.

I find this works better than the BBQ plate too. I've used both and the BBQ plate isn't as non-stick as the solid ones.

Did you have the heat deflector in place when using it?

Also, bear in mind the hottest bit of the cooking ring isn't where you expect it - check the instructions but from memory it's kind of the middle third all the way around.

Hi yes we had the BBQ deflector plate on - I will have to try the griddle surface for BBQ's I would rather use the BBQ plate but will have to have a look.

When do you not use the deflector plate - all these bits and different surfaces is quite confusing.

DSB ( or some other kind camper )

For the benefit of us Cadac newbs could you summarise what plates you use if you are grilling or using your chrome bbq plates, and also what ones you have to clean each time you use the griddle or the bbq plates.

Also, what are the essential accessories for a cadac these days. Is the pan liner really any use as I've heard its great but cant get my head around what it does. Does it simply make washing up a bit easier?

I know there are many threads on cadacs but i haven't yet seen this sort of basic user info.

What I've used:

Flat side of griddle plate for breakfast.
Ridged side of griddle plate for burgers etc.
BBQ Grill surface for grilled chicken etc.
Skottel for larger quantities of sausages etc.
Roasting pan for roast chicken/potatoes.

Still haven't tried the wire grill tray or Paella pan added to the kit over the winter.

I haven't got a wire grill tray - have a wire pan stand - is the black BBQ plate a new design or old design of the Cadac.  We bought ours in Go just after Christmas but it depends on how long they have had them in the shop.

I'm thinking of getting the paella pan so it will be good to hear if anyone thinks its worth it. We tend to do a lot of rice or pasta based dishes and was hoping to use our cadac most of the time rather than use the caravan hob.

The  black BBQ plate is the newer version design . Purchased my delux cadac in 2010, that had a blck bbq plate, the cadacs on offer at the same time( about £15-£20 cheaper) had the old style wire plate.

I don't use the bbq plate at all, tried it once , worked well but too much washing up. I take a small charcoal bbq with me as well. I use the burn it off method to clean the wire plate

the skottle and griddle plate are fantastic though, feed 2 familys most nights when we go to France, 10 of us.
