ive just bought a second hand trailer to store luggage etc in and it has no lighting board, i have looked around but the shortest one i can see is 3 foot and the trailer is only about 2 and a half foot wide, would it matter if the board stuck out at the sides, or does anyone have any other suggestions, thanks in advance

You could buy lights, cable, plug, triangles and number plate and mount them all directly onto the trailer.  It might be neater and more secure.

I know that the 7 pin plugs all come with a wiring diagram so it is not hard to wire then correctly.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

it is fine if the light board is wider than the trailer.

Can I just ask a question about this if thats OK? Legally do you have to have a proper number plate fitted to a trailer board? Or can you just write the car number on?

Thanks

Angela

you will get more police attention with a pretend number plate and they get annoyed if any bit of your trailer is below errr par!
if you use it at night you will need proper number plate lights so you might as well use a real number plate.
how about a couple of lugs or nice wedges on the trailer masking the few inches each side the board will be sticking out? save breaking it catching on something

dont forget the rules with safety chains the police around here have many "stops" this time of the year for inspections of trailers
