Hi

I have read through many of the posts regarding the Talisman Tilley Model Number GC.500 but I am unable to find out the answers I need: I would therefore be very grateful for any help.

I have purchased from eBay a Talisman Tilley – I believe from the date on the hose it’s a 1979 model assuming that the hose has not been replaced.

(This incidentally dates from about the time I used to regularly camp and I am sure this is a very similar item to what we used if not the exact same model, but as I was only 9 years old I unfortunately I didn’t pay too much attention.. but knowing my parents a lot of research would have been done in particular by my Mother regarding health and safety, which was one of the reasons I purchased it on recognising the name.)

I need to replace the hose as it shows considerable wear thus my questions start:

1.        Can the hose be easily removed and replaced or if not easily is it at least possible?

2.       Can I easily purchase a hose and exactly what do I need I guess it’s some sort of high pressure hose but what do I need to ask for?

3.       I understand that they were designed not to need a regulator but just to connect directly into the cylinder   which I understand is (butane) Camping gaz- Is this still possible and importantly is it safe? – I have the required connection (well at least the existing hose has some sort of connection I am assuming this is what it is) although I do not have the gaz but I assume this is widely available.

4.       Alternatively can I replace the hose and use a regular regulator?

If this is the case can I have an idiot guide as to what to buy and how to fit it. – I am not too concerned about converting it to other than camping gaz unless it’s safe and easy to do

Thank you in anticipation for your help, this is my first post

I am after 22 years of not going camping, about to introduce my family to their first camping experience in June

Hi, and welcome to the site. I believe we had a similar query just a short while ago about a very similar sounding problem. I believe it might be a high pressure cooker which runs straight from the bottle. If this is the case, you will need to get some high pressure hose, probably from a specialist supplier and some crimp fittings rather then the normal low pressure hose, jubilee clips and a regulator from your local caravan or camping shop. There are some safety concerns about this type of stove, particularly if the gas bottle were to tip over. There would be nothing to stop the liquid gas squirting out of the burners which could lead to some spectacular flames. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have it checked out by an expert before you use it.

Pete

Hello Claire,

I have a similar problem, and I wonder what progress you have made ?
