  We use one of these, can be picked up from Asda for about £2 or from Amazon for about £3.50. I use a low wattage energy saving bulb in it.

I use an ordinary little table or bedside lamp complete with an energy saving bulb in the living area. Cost £4 from Homebase. I find this gives a nice subdued light which is plenty for reading and doing things in the tent without being too bright.

I also use a 4 x 'D' cell battery lantern for the bedroom pod. This is the type which has a bright and dim switch although the bright is quite dim and the dim is very dim. I use it just for getting into bed after the main light in the living area has been switched off.

I also keep a little led torch to hand in case I need to get out in the night and for generally walking around after dark. 

2 table lamps and have just wired up a central one! 7m of cord, a inline switch, lamp holder and old plug (cost about £4 for materials from wilkinsons!)

I use a work lamp with a hook, got 3 of various designs, the one I normallu use is not IP rated so it can't be used outside. However, it does have a switch which is very handy.

The other two are IP rates, and I have been known to hang one outside the tent when I was having a party.

Hiyas, just back from shopping trip to Wilkinsons...in bag is 10m 2 core cable, plug, through switch, lamp holder & paper ( lantern style ) shade total £7.14 now just get hubby motivated to make us a smart electric light for the center of our Tent. Thanks for the ideas n lets hope this works as we have a large high tent so need something bit brighter than the UFO style light we had.
