Yeap, wouldn't be without ours although, had to have a facelift last year with side extensions to accommodate the Aladdin's cave of "stuff" - the band of aluminium in the middle was added. Comes as a kit from Anssems.

Be aware that some trailers come with silly sized wheels which are prone to blowouts usually caused through overloading and speed. Avoid anything with 8" rims. Try and go for a proper road wheel. The Anssems trailers come with 13" wheels and are rated at over 90mph! Towed ours to France this year which was a 920 mile round trip. Didn't flinch! A few come up on eBay but we bought ours which was 3 years old from an advert on Gumtree; a smidge under £500.00. Pricey I know but looked after, they dont depreciate by very much once they are a few years old and looked after, you'll never have a problem selling it on. All the GT series are able to take roof bars and up to 100kg on the lid (if you have one) so that's where our roof box sits - works brilliantly. The trailer is completely waterproof and air tight so it is perfect for storing all the camping gear in the trailer which then stays in the garage. We service the trailer every 2 years locally for £60.00. Not compulsory but just, piece of mind!

Hi I am looking to buy a small trailer for our camping equipment, (my Hyundai Coupe isn't quite big enough, we look like the Clampits at the moment!).

I am looking at an ERDE 102 as I can get a really good deal on one at the moment, (£205 with cover and lock & delivery) or would I be better off going for one a bit larger even though it will be more expensive?

Any thoughts would be appeciated.

As an alternative, we are ordering one of these at the end of the month;

It holds 130kg and has a whole host of accessories. They are about to launch a basket that is 1600mm wide, enough to accommodate the largest tent. In addition, we have ordered one of these from Camping Travel store;

100% waterproof and measures 1200 x 80 x 60. The advantages are no restriction in regards to towing speed, easier to store and cheaper! We do lots of weekend camps and want to avoid using the trailer. Thule do a similar one but it only holds 45kg which is completely useless to us. We will still use our roof box too!

<!--bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img",1);//-->from experiance i would say go for the biggest you can store and afford, if you buy too small you may live to regret it, and before long you will be spending more cash in trying to increase its capacity height wise using side extender pannels, but even if you do this, there will be nothing you can do to increase the trailers load capacity, and on other occasions its surprising what you may want to use your trailer for,

Even now we have given up tent camping we still use our Daxara 137 with extended side panels to move our daughter around with all her gear whilst shes at uni.

I would say big is beautiful in this case, within reason of course, dont want something the size of a horse box on the back lol!

Hi Skiddy, we had the Thule BackUp Box in 2009 which is a similiar concept to the Bak-Rak.

We already had the Thule 902 EuroClassic tow ball mounted bike rack, which the Back Up Box was specifically designed to fit onto to.

Never again though, we went to the Southern Ardeche with the Back Up Box on the back of the firms VW Golf that I drive, it was definitely the wrong car for the Back Up Box, the Golf can only take 75kg on the tow ball, and even though I stuck to that, the steering became vague, and the car never returned to it's full rear height again, obviously that was not helped by having a whole bunch of camping gear in the car.

Needless to say, we sold the Back Up a Box upon return, and that's when we got the Trailer.

I have heard of the problem which can be associated with the rear tyres loading capabilities being exceeded. Even though you say the tow hitch could take 75kg, the Thule rack surely only takes 45kg? Perhaps I'm wrong.

A little diagram with the load maximum in red:

[/IMG]

Here is a chart showing the maximum load bearing which of course includes the car but distributed between all 4 tyres.

[/IMG]

Sounds like the cars load capacity was greatly exceeded for it to be vague and not return to its normal height! You'll need to stop buying camping gear!

Our tyres are 110Y rated so massive loads; in addition, our tow-bar nose weight is up to 140kg. Our cars normal weight is 2200kg and can tow 3500kg so the tyres are/should be capable of an additional 130kg on the rear two as in theory, each one can cope with a load of over 1000kg each! We don't anticipate any issues but it is worth chatting to your cars dealer/manufacturer to find out for sure.

We will keep you posted....
