Please could you knowledgable camping peeps recommend a good quality SIM, preferably one which is also good value for money aswell as being of good quality. Thanks x

I use an Alpkit which I find perfect. (fat airic) Now replaced with a new version but can't remember the name) senior moment. IT'S A  'DOZER' The Vango has also had good reports, and a bit cheaper. My personal recommendation would be to get one as thick as possible, but others will say they found the thinner versions to be OK. I think this can depend on how firm the foam inside is. The Vango foam is more supportive than some others. If you over inflate it when you top up by mouth, it will loose the comfort benifits over a normal air bed, but not the extra warmth they give.

Another vote for Alpkit, we use Wedge or Wideboy (its had two names). This allows backpacking camping (just). If it was always car camping it would be the Dozer. But when we have the car we use our trailer tent with mattresses.

Well, i may get shot down here, but i have actually purchased one from Tesco for £15
I have a love hate relationship with air beds, i have never found them to be comfortable, so courtesy of Mr Tesco i purchased one free with my vouchers.
I slept on it for two nights last week and i have to say had the best nights sleep i have ever had whilst camping. It did all that it said on the packet and more! I had no leg or hip pain, which i do with a blow up, i was warm and i slept......Perfect

Exped for me. I use a Comfort 10 DLX, a bit pricey but very comfy and I have used it down to -14 deg C

I confess that after years of camping with cubs and Scouts I have become accustomed to sleeping on the basic foam mats. However I have a Fat Airic (Alpkit) and a Robens mat both of which are 7.5 or 10cm mats. I find these far more comfortable than airbeds as the foam provides good thermal insulation. Both mats provide good support and are very comfortable.
However my wife hates them and refuses to sleep on anything other than an airbed so be prepared to fall either side of the fence.
