Please dont be offended, but I think 3 months is far too young to be taking a baby camping - no matter how many layers you are using. I dont think a tent is the correct environment for a baby that young. You have extreme cold at night then extreme heat in the day due to the material of the tent. Some tents are like ovens in the morning, and if a baby is wrapped up in numerous layers wouldnt the extreme heat be dangerous? We've 3 kids and ours didnt start camping with us till they were at least a year old. Sorry I just wouldnt take the risk.
I have to add though that my wife completely disagrees with me. So Im getting told off whilst typing this.
Afraid I too disagree with you. As long as parents are prepared and consider the needs of their baby there should be no more risk camping than staying at home, or even than walking the baby in the pram on a cold winter's day!
Sleep suits would be my reccomendation if they still do them.
We took our oldest to Spain by plane when he was 12 weeks old and he came back fine! (he is 21 yrs now) Different to camping but still with things to consider.
Our younger son (now 18) first went tent camping in France (pre errected) when he was 7 months old and apart from the ligistics of packing a car with two prams/ a baby bath and all the usual stuff you seem to need for babies he too came to no harm and enjoyed the camp. As it was Sept at the time the evenings could cool quite a lot too. That was our first ever camping experience and we have been enjoying it ever since.
Have you seen the camping cots you can get as these may help to protect the baby from the cold. There is a thread on the caravan section with pics, of these in use today.
