Hi.

We've just brought our first tent - a second hand Outwell Bear Lake 4, and now we're busy buying camping gear.

We found a cheap gas cooker in B and M, but i've got no idea which gas i've got to use, or what I need to pipe it up.

The cooker has the nozzle on it, for a flexible hose, but do we need a regulator too ?

Do we need to buy one of the big gas bottles that you have to re fill - like this

http://www.tauntonleisure.com/campingaz-907-refillable-gas-bottle-new-available-in-store-only/p3670?source=froogle&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=comparison_shopping_feeds&utm_nooverride=1

or will the small ones do - like this

http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=camping+gas&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUK276&prmd=ivns&biw=994&bih=618&wrapid=tlif130381752711610&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=17522861104019134112&sa=X&ei=Oa22TfKlHZDA8QPdqqVN&ved=0CG8Q8wIwAA#

And how long can we expect the gas to last ?

You need a steel gas bottle as in your first link, correct regulator to go with, length of rubber gas pipe & 2 jubilee clips. If you are just UK camping it would be cheaper to get a small 4.5kg Calor bottle. Campingaz is more expensive but bottles are exchangable abroad. You might find either empty bottle on a tip or at a carboot sale cheap.

It don't matter how dirty or rusty it is you can still exchange for full bottle paying only for contents. Dip ends of rubber pipe in cup of boiling water to push onto cooker & regulator & secure with jubilee clips.

Get bottle first & then go to caravan/camping shop & ask for correct regulator for whatever bottle you get & rubber gas hose/clips.

I'd say you'd need the 907 as the smaller bottle is a screw on one that we use for our gas light.  As you say the cooker has a nozzle on it for a flexible hose.  You can get the hose from any camping shop, as well as the regulator for the gas bottle.  You'll also need a jubilee clip to attach the tube to the nozzle.  It's better to have the bigger bottle as it'll last longer. Hope that helps

Just a thought but to go with mine i`ve got the push fit brass adaptor, which basically allows you to not keep having them together whist in storage or when we`ve packed up and ready for the off :)
