Hi again! so i'm also looking at sleeping bags and don't have a clue as to what to get or what we'll need. Again comfort is imperative because of back problems and having to twist dp's arm about coming camping!! I will be sleeping with my 2 year old right next to me so i think i'll be needing a double sleeping bag. Dp and our 8yr old dd will be in singles each. I totally feel the cold at all times so i'll need to be warm, dd will kick covers off at night and wont' want to be too restricted - but also won't want to be cold! do we also need to buy a sheet to go inside? or do you end up washing the whole sleeping bag every couple of weeks? I'll also need 1 cheaper sleeping bag to use as a spare for guests that will camp with us. So what should i get and where from? any advice would be most welcome!
------------- Experience enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
I have a Vango mummy sleeping bag with a fleece liner (as I too feel the cold), and found it to be very restricting so I would suggest getting the largest bag you can find and also get a 4 season one if possible. Mine is a 3 season and I still woke up in the night feeling chilly! (last weekend). If it is very warm weather you can just use the liner to sleep in. By the way, some bags cannot be machine washed so I feel some sort of liner is essential. Hope this helps.
I went to towsure to look at bags cos my son had outgrown his junior, looked at the nitestar etc and thought how can they keep you warm when so thin? Ended up getting a really thick 1 think towsure own make. Cost me about 30 quid, is 60oz. Went last week for 7 nights and was lovely toasty warm, didnt need blanket or anything, even took socks off, just had pjs on. People rave about these brands and mummy bags etc but i reckon mine is as good if not better. Was loads of room and big enough to snuggle down and put it over your head without feeling hemmed in like a mummy bag. Has kind of leaf pattern on it and is red and cream.....love it!!!
I wouldn't share with a two year old, doubles aren't that large - get them their own bag.
We have a junior size 3 season sleeping bag my daughter has now grown out of. It's only been used for a about 8 nights camping if you are interested
A silk sleeping bag liner is definitely worth it - saves you washing the whole bag and provides extra warmth.
I have a mummy bag, but daughter and wife have square bags - a Hi gear double and a Coleman Hampton, both are flannel cotton so warmer, but they are bulkier than a mummy bag.
I love these sleeping bags they are like quilts and so toasty and warm:

Really soft inside you feel like you are in your quilt at home.
