Bought a Lumogaz Plus gas light for our family camping trip. I've not lit it yet, but was wondering if it is safe to hang from the light loop in the living area of our Montana?
Not sure how much heat they produce and if there is any risk of melting the fly sheet...
Thanks for the info guys. I'm guessing my concerns about it getting knocked off a table outside or kicked over are nothing compared to the potential consequences of having it indoors. I'm surprised there isn't more on the packaging to warn of risks of poor ventilation.
I suppose the follow-up question would be can you recommend a good electric light (battery or rechargeable) that is dimmable?
I'm happy with a wind-up LED lantern similar to this but which has two brightness settings, and a Poundland "UFO" light (not dimmable), which like similar products from other outlets, uses 4 AA batteries.
I use several types of light with a flame inside my tent. I tend to hang mine just above the table (on a chain) so they can't be knocked over, or bumped into, and well away from any tent fabric. Obviously ventilation is all important.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
we tend to use our lantern under the tarp for good bouncing/diffusion of light. it needs a 6" long hook to give it enough room to dissipate heat from teh canvas - you can easily check with your hand over the lantern to feel if it is too hot
some people take CO monitors camping - if you do, remember that CO rises (so put the alarm up high), which is possibly one reason why CO poisoning in tents is less of an issue if the doors are open
It's really good, it's got 3 settings, 1 tube, both tubes or just a tiny led bulb and the charge lasts for ages - we didn't need to charge ours at all over Easter while we were away.
Actually I'm not sure actually if this is exactly the same as ours as I'm sure ours was reduced from £34.99 to £19.99 in store, but it's the same make, it might just be a smaller version.
