We bought a Outwell 24litre coolbox yesterday which can be plugged into the car or into the electrical hookup on the tent, but the fans on it are REALLY noisy! Is this normal? We have never had EHU before so not sure what is considered the "norm", so wondered what everyone else has?
Recommendations appreciated as I think we will be taking this one back :)
Most coolbox fans make a noise to be silent you need a three way or domestic table top,the three way is handy to run of gas if you dont use HU but you dont say what outfit you use,it should not be used on gas in your sleeping area or for that matter an enclosed living area.

------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
Most cool 16 degrees below out side temps so at 20 out side it should be 4 in the box at night switch off to avoid it iceing up the unit in a car remember it will soon drain the battery if engine not on.For short trips use a cool box and use ice packs!
We just picked up one of the "special offer" 12v/230v ones from Lidl. This is our first electric coolbox, so I didn't know what to expect as far as noise was concerned.
The fan is quieter than our fan heater is, and we easily slept through that. So I am more than happy with the slight buzz in the background that the coolbox gives off. In fact, we had it plugged in to test it as soon as we got it home, and after a short while I completely forgot it was there!
We use a Waeco CF25, works like a normal fridge/freezer so runs silent, great bit of kit, we bought it specificly for use in the South of France during July, it's paid for itself now, with us not having to hire a fridge on site, ours was a lucky find at £150 brand new in the box, although the retail price is a bit steep at around £500!.
We bought a Kampa one a couple of years ago and first trip out it was really quiet. Problem was it gradually got noisier each trip until it became unbearable.
We replaced it with the Outwell one last year and it's much quieter and has stayed that way.
Maybe you've got a faulty one. Perhaps you could take it back and ask to hear some others?

We've tried two different 240/12v coolboxes and both of them were too noisy for us. We use a 3-way fridge now & it's completely silent - it makes ice cubes too We love it, as we're not tied to using sites with EHU - we've used it on gas quite a few times & it's perfect.
