Hi all,

Me and the DW have after reading this site decided that we need a Cadac (we cannot justify a Cobb).

We have seen the Safari Chef for £69.99 and the Travel chef for £99.99. There will mostly be just the 2 of us, but we we often go away with friends, so the option to cook for more would be handy.

As the DW has just said versatility is the name of the game.

We'd be grateful for comments.

Thanks

We're also looking at getting a Cadac after our trip last weekend and have decided that although there are only two of us, the Safari Chef probably won't be big enough so we're going for the Carri Chef.

We had a good look at both of them (several times) and whilst the Safari looked good for most things and I really liked that it packed away smaller, what worried me the most was that the flat/ribbed griddle looks far too small to do a decent meal: its no bigger than my current frying pan and I already know that's too small to do a fry-up in one pan! I also really like the look of the skottel on the Carri Chef and the fact that the Carri chef is a good height.

Hi, i have a cadac safari chef and it cooks enough for two with ease (in fact i am rather a porker  so what I cook for two may well serve four in some houses) although i agree if you wanted eggs bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes it would struggle a bit.

DO shop around, whichever one you decide to go for - there are much cheaper prices out there. I put a link on the thread about the beauclaire/george foreman to a site selling the safari chef for £49.99. I just had a quick look on ebay, if you go to

http://www.bargainchecker.com/local/default.aspx

that can find all the things in your area that are on ebay as collection only - it's great for finding all sorts of things and as we all know, at this time of year people are reviewing their camping kit and many are getting rid of purchases that didnt work for them.

As you will have seen, all the various options have their fans and their pros and cons. I will not fib and say the cadac is a joy to clean, but i do love cooking on it, have had great results and find it's easy to carry and use.

I got the Safari Chef recently from Tesco direct and with the offers at the time picked it up for only £42.20 delivered. Used it for the first time this last week and was very impressed with it. I could sit in my chair and cook. We had bacon and eggs every morning and chops etc and a lovely stir fry in the wok/dome in the evening which I would never have done on my normal stove. It packs away small and am still using the same gas canister. (Best buy at Argos 4 for £14.99)

Love it.

Julie

We recently bought safari chef. Have used for 3 of us with extra space available. Like it because it packs up so small.

Another safari chef fan. More than big enough for two and can cope with a barbecue for 4-5

Another Safari Chef HP fan here, and I believe it is big enough for two people with ease.

As already mentioned above, stock up on the Cadac 500g gas canisters from Argos, 14.99 GBP for 4 is a bargain, when GO is selling Coleman's version at 5.40 GBP each with the discount card!

I often change gas before it is completely emptied as it can take longer time to cook when the gas pressure is low, so I got myself a Coleman F1 lantern to use with the near empty cans. Looks rather odd as the lantern is much smaller than the canister! But hey, it works, and you can't beat the warm glow of a gas lantern IMHO.

I've been in the same boat, reading cobb vs cadac for a week but finally picked up the Cadac Safari Chef HP on Saturday. I would guess you have to consider your needs. We wanted something more portable for days out, also an extra/alternative cooking surface for when camping. Also I wanted isntant heat and something that I could just turn off when finished cooking.

I agree it probably wont do a full english for two people when we camp but it will mean i wont have to use the grill to keep my sausage and bacon warm under the grill while i cook my eggs/mushrooms etc, besides the rings are always on for the beans and tomatoes :)

It got its first use yesterday when we went out with a couple of friends to sherwood pines for a ride around and a few burgers and sausages for lunch. Easily coped with a dozen sausages at once, and while we ate them it cooked the burgers :) It was funny because another couple close by lit their disposable bbq at same time we lit the Cadac, we had finished eating by time they started cooking ..

My friend was so impressed he is considering his own now, so all in all I'm happy with my choice. I just wish it had longer legs but i will stand it on a table :)

I am now a happy owner now, hope you make the right choice for you :)

P.S The DW says it was easy to clean to when we got home ;)

We have recently bought a Safari Chef, £40 from Preloved locally used once! It's been fine for the four of us over the past 9 days and we also have a Cobb we can use at the same time if we want to cook more. We liked the small pack size and weight of the Safari Chef over the bigger ones.
