Sure, transporting one around and not letting it settle properly before use will cut that lifetime down.
Perhaps it might not last a year.
But a year of camping is, for most of us, a very long time. If you camp for a max of 4 weeks a year, that's over 10 years use.

Sorry to disappoint you but the average lifespan of a new fridge is approximately 3 to 7 years of normal use unless you buy something like a Miele .Unfortunately manufacturers like to sell lots of appliances so it is not in their interests to make them last longer especially at the bottom end of the market.This i know not just from my experience but my wife works for John Lewis on the white goods department and has done for many years and has subsequently been on many training courses by the likes of bosh ,hotpoint , zannussi just to name a few and all admited this fact as these goods are no longer made to to same standards as they were in the good old days.
But we digress as the point of this post to help Graham in his choice of cooler and as in everything in life we are all different so are our needs and funds.( I'm personally skint but don't tell the wife

Waeco CF25 for £150 bargain of the century certainly not the norm.
We bought a waeco cf-18 (£300) for short trips and to our surprise is used more than the larger fridge.
For the larger trips we bought waeco CF-50 (£699) for the longer trips to Africa where it performed perfectly.
Speaking to recent overlanders at a meeting recently it looks like waeco have been cost cutting and have replace the superb Danfoss compressor with their own make. If you are in the market for a waeco make sure it has the danfoss compressor.
But overall we have battered both about the back of a 4x4 and used it in the house continuously for nearly 8 years and they are like the day we bought them.

Hi.We bought the Argos basic tabletop fridge to take with us seeing as we have a trailer now so room in the boot.I have just looked at the back and it draws 60 watts.

Yep, scamp that Waeco CF25 was a lucky find, although it did cost me a further £20 to get it shipped from Southampton to Manchester via courier.
Still it arrived still in the manufacturers original packaging having never even been opened.
Anyway that was back in 2008 and the little Waeco has served us well, but has now been relegate to in car use and day trips only.
Because back in February this year we bought a Mobicool CF40 for our fortnight campings in the South of France during July, another compressor fridge/freezer bargain for just £139 from a Dutch retailer. and from the same stable as the Waeco a firm called Dometic.
Fact is most campsites have EHU so the C40 will suit us fine for our fortnight campings, and should there be no EHU we always have the trusty Waeco CF25 to fall back on.
For my modest £219 outlay we have a very flexible camping refrigeration set up, with some 63lt capacity, job done.

The 60L table top we bought for £90 in 2011, plus the 40L on board Pennine one gives us 100L for under £100.
Makes an excellent combo ... reduces shopping expeditions to twice a week ...
By the way ... never waited more than half an hour before plugging up the table top ... never failed ... yet!

Thats something to be aware of our friends took a table top a few years ago and it only went to 20 below ambient which left their fridge at 10 or 11 degrees some days with their milk going off. We kept 2 pints of milk for two weeks using old fashioned solid water for £2 a day compared to their £4.50 a day for EHU.

We are in France at the moment .... temperature in the awning (where our table top fridge is) has been up to 40 ... still getting ice from the ice-box. No problem with milk, beer, rosé or any food.

As well as the fridge which is fitted in the camper we have a Sibir ( identical to the Dometic/Waeko 41 lt model} 3 way cooler which works well and is now 10 years old. Whilst it is claimed that they only cool 20 degrees below ambient, ours has maintained frost in 35 degrees because we site it under the front of the camper out of the sun where the air from under the camper is cool.
