Can anybody help ...... we have airbeds for our tent and last year we took our duvets. We were fine and cosy but they took up a lot of room so this year we splashed out and got an Outwell Contour sleeping bag. The only problem is when we wake up the airbed and the outside of the sleeping bag has a huge damp patch on it. We never had this problem with our sheet when we had the duvet on the same airbed. Does anybody know how we can prevent this from happening? Would sleeping on a camp bed make any difference?
The only time we had this problem was when I woke up one morning and my sleeping bag had been touching the inner bedroom side, which had touched the outside of the tent, it was the condensation which made my sleeping bag have a damp patch, I was on a camp bed at the time. Is your airbed too close to the side of your tent?? I just pulled my bed out a bit away from the side and it was OK after that.
We had the same problem and after reading the advice on here realised it was condensation. Body heat hitting cold air from the air bed. Last weekend I put foil back picnic rugs on top of the air beds and secured them with a sheet. We had no damp patches at all for the 3 nights we camped.
Put an old army blanket on the air bed,it must be wool, get them from charity shops. At night do not put your head down inside the sleeping bag as your breath will cause you to get cold and it will make condensation.
We have the outwell contour double sleeping bag on an airbed but we put a picnic blanket underneath the bed, a fleece blanket on top of the bed and then a bedsheet on top of that. Then the sleeping bag and have never had a problem.
If it's really cold, we put a duvet on top of the sleeping bag, but again, still no problems and nice and cosy.
Wow so pleased I found this thread! I had the same problem for the first time recently in a new sleeping bag, even though I had a fleece blanket on the air bed. I was baffled, and to be honest, as we were at a motorbike rally and had rather a late night and rather a lot to drink, I did start to wonder whether I had had an accident in the middle of the night lol! However the fact that my fleecy pjs were dry reassured me on that one! Will try a picnic blanket next time, thanks!
Even more effective, and a trick i have often used when staying in a hotel with those horrible plastic mattress covers fitted is to put a large cotton bathtowel under it, and condensation or persepiration gets absorbed instantly, giving a much more comfortable nights sleep. Just remove them and air them by day, they dont take long and can easily be replaced ready for the next night.

I found a tip in another thread on here to put an old cardboard box opened up under the airbed, then fleece blankets on top of it. Worked fine for a long weekend with a cheap Gelert double sleeping bag on top.
