Hi
The old aerial I inherited with the caravan i bought last year gives very poor TV reception; both digital and analogue.I believe it is YAQI type but rather small. Trawling the internet looking for advice for a new one - a bit confusing - some suggestions that a "log periodic type" is best for tourers but others saying these are only suitable in strong signal areas. Can anybody enlighten me?
(p.s. Want to avoid satellite for the present).
Cheers

The facts are, on completion of Digital Terrestrial switch over, fewer places will be able to receive a TV signal, than could before, with the Analog Terrestrial system.

This is why Freesat (from Sky) the Freesat from BBC/ITV was introduced, in a bid to sort out those folk, who now can only get a TV signal via Satellite.

This is all due to the fact, that the millions of £'s that the government has made from this transition, has not been spent on building new and extra Digital Terrestrial transmitters.

And of course, campsites are nearly always in a bad signal location for Terrestrial signals, they were with analogue, but the comming of Digital has made things worse not better.

So unfortunatley, satellite is the only effective solution.

It's really so very, very simple.

TV companies do not have a special extra TV network just for tourers. When you visit an area, you need to have equipment that is compatible with what is in use there.

i.e., you need exactly the same aerials the locals have on their houses.

As it's a bit impractical to carry all those around with you, anything else you do is a compromise and may be OK in some situations but will not work in others.

I know you said you didn't want satellite, but it really is the best way. One set of kit that will work anywhere and it's a heck of a lot easier to set up than digital TV in an area you do not know very well.
