any one fitted a fimma mount to the a frame at the front do you have to drill the frame cover to bolt it on ??? just bought one because it said no drilling required to fit or do you take the cover off the frame cheers mike
Fiamma A frame bike racks require no drilling, they fit on chassis with clamps. Not an option for your caravan as you have integral cover over A frame & also A frame is too short.
Generally fitted to European built 'vans that have longer A frames with no cover. I've often wondered about excess noseweight with these mounts, but they seem fairly popular on't continent. You would also need to watch clearance on a sharp turn to ensure bikes don't hit car.
No harm in trying it, I suppose. If the cover on A frame can be removed you can then attach the bike rack. The U bolts for attaching it should be supplied with it. Issues could be excess noseweight & insufficient clearance with towing vehicle on turns....Let us know how you get on.
The average weight of an adult bike is about 30 pounds, you know. Two of these plus the weight of the rack is going to add an insane amount to your noseweight, surely?
hi,
just been down to my van with said bike rack mmmmmmmm the only way to fit it would be to remove the frame cover and that looks garbb on a new van with the frame hand brake wires all on show now to c if they will take it back or good bye £100 NOT NICE
Hope they refund you.
Big no-no really on the 'A' frame due to weight (as mentioned by others), but under no circumstances be tempted to drill the frame/chassis as this weakens efficiency of the galvanised finish.
cheers
for the reply s just got a e mail from the shop and they will take it back less post but i must say never thought about the ball weight going up after seeing a few on the road just have to keep putting them inside the van
