They don't want fires so I guess you can't use it. 'collective barbecue' could mean either brick barbies provided or a communal area to set up your own barbie in which case you could use your cobb there.
Risk of setting fire to grass & vegetation in sth of France which is why they don't allow on pitch barbies. A cobb burns solid fuel so it would probably not be allowed.
As far as I am aware, it is quite common for French campsites to ban the use of charcoal BBQs and fire pits due to risk of fire when the weather is dry.
Hence I bought my Cadac Safari Chef HP that uses butane/propane gas cartridges in readiness for camping in France a couple of years ago.

It still burns solid fuel & needs to be lit so risk of sparks, it only takes one when everything is dry. It depends whether you look at it from a point of view of responsibilty or what you can get away with.
Better to be safe and take an alternative stove/oven, rather than to risk finding you can't cook once you are on the campsite because it is banned, IMHO!

We have the same problem this year. I love my Cobb, but emailed the campsite with full details and they said no. I don't think they get it!! I bought a cadac safari and that still needs a match to light it, you cant pick it up and move it once its lit as the metal is hot as hell. Not like the cobb. I have bought some cobble stones as they dont flare up as much when you light them and let out less smoke. I am taking the cobb and the cadac and see what happens. To me the Cobb is no more a fire risk than the Cadac. Its how you dispose of the hot embers. Again the cobble stones stay intact when cold and are easy to get rid of. Like I say the French dont understand the Cobb but they might get p*ssy if you use it so take both just in case. If you cant use it, you can take it on the beach and have a bbq, you can't do that with a caddac!!
I have seen peeps taking a Cadac that uses LPC for a BBQ on a beach.
It does not bother me not being able to use my Weber Go Anywhere BBQ in France, as I shall have fun pan-frying, grilling, or stir-frying using my Cadac.
Or I may eat out, which I often do when I am in France.

As has been said, almost all other cooking devices require lighting and/or generate a flame in use. Still, I think we're resigned to taking our trusty old Trangia plus the suitcase stove and otherwise living on bread, cheese and wine,
We have camped at Les Pins (see review) and the 'group barbecue' was a big, brick built barbie with various tables/benches around the area. Many people went down to the beach (on the lake) with their barbecues for their evening meal. The Cobb is ideal for that. It's a 3 minute walk to the beach.
The French are, justifiably, paranoid about the possibility of fire in that part of the country so I wouldn't risk using it on site.
I'm extremely envious of you, the site is good and the location is great. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
