Can anyone recommend a breathable groundsheet to me please?
I personally haven't tried one yet but a friend of mine has now had three different makes and complained about all of them letting in wet/damp once there has been a couple of hours rain on the ground. Is this the normal thing with them or are there some around that will stay dry?

Breathable groundsheets have holes in to make them breathable, so they will let in the water.

If you want something to stay dry you would need to use a tarpaulin and a breathable on top for comfort but a lot of places don't allow this.

Can't help with the rain thing, as we go camping in the South of France, and don't get rain, although we do use a breathable ground sheet 16ft x 12ft for the porch area, leading upto the kitchen tent (Gallery).

The ground sheet is marketed by Quest and is branded AeroTex, it's made from the natural fibre Jute, and coated with some kind of Green laminate.

Real nice under foot, and lets the wee grass shouts come through, I think the campsite owner likes the idea of us using it as well.

Breathable groundsheets are essentially giant tea bags.

And about as useful as a ground covering.

Oh dear, it's not sounding very good then really is it? I can't see the point in having to use things that are going to let everything inside them get wet through. Doesn't sound like much fun for the poor people sleeping inside awning tents.....haha.

Tarp on top sort of defeats the object of breathable. Might as well just use the Tarp.

Perhaps I have been lucky, but i can't recall having a major problem with ours - a Kamps Easytread,  We really like ours.

I bought a Fiamma one at great expense (one of my worst buys I am afraid) and laid it in my privacy room for the first time on what I thought was dry ground.  Took my shoes off and got soaking wet!  If you are staying for a long time on one pitch I can understand why you shouldn't use a tarp but for a couple of nights (which is what we mostly do), then a tarp will not have time to kill the grass.  And your fet stay dry.

We use an Isabella Bolon close weave, very comfortable, but it would let damp through eventually.

had the same trouble so in the end got a couple of seconds of ebay and now lay two down togever this seems alot better and the grass stays alive.they only cost £25 each and are 4mx3m in size.

We have a Kampa we got it at Go Outdoors (Hanley, Stoke) a couple of weeks back as a last minute buy as the new caravan's bigger and the softex isn't long enough.

Prefer the Softex if truth be told, the Kampa doesn't sit as well and as for letting water through I would expect it! If you're on a seasonal pitch you can put a base down to stop this problem. At the end of the day we don't see it as a problem we're caravanning and it's part of that.
