I don't get it at all with the SIMs  I mean they look so thin but as so many people say they were so much comfier than an airbed I was prepared to believe it & gave one a try - but I found it only marginally more comfortable than sleeping on the concrete floor (was sleeping at a friend's house) ... is it because I'm thin ? Mind you surely heavy people would compress them more ?  !

Hi, I am now use a combination.  Up till this year, I had a 5cm SIM on the floor, very comfy but at nearly age 50, I thought it would be nice to be higher off the ground.  So this week I bought an Outwell Posadas bed and use the SIM on top (this means I'm lying flat on the canvas, which is exactly what I like).  I've been back garden camping all week and loving the comfort.  I'd love to upgrade to 10cm SIM at some point.

Pros of a raised bed is that its nice to sleep at normal bed-level (although in saying that you loose the sense of adventure in camping on the ground!), and it also means that you can use the space under the bed for storage of bags, etc.  Cons, one negative about a raised bed means that (since tents slope inward
typically), it means that you can lose some space (e.g. we fit both SIMS on ground level in one of our bedroom pods but with camp beds at a higher level, they no longer will fit in a pod because of the sloping tent sides have reduced space, if you know what I mean).

Overall am very happy with SIM on campbed.

Thanks for planting that seed in my mind Humbird.....you've cost me £120 and my 4 birth is now a 'cosy' 2 birth!.........but what a great nights sleep :)

Been doin the SIM on campbed for ages as I was sick of airbeds (not so much the cold but deflating) Just purchased the Pasodas with a 7.5cm Vango SIM.......Carlsburg obviously does do camping :) lol

We have Outwell air beds, but found that the 4 yr old kept sliding off, non stop waking up during the night and tangled up in the sleeping bag!
Was looking at SIMs, and this afternoon found the short sims reduced in Millets at £12, so picked the last one up- inflated it, and didn't think mych of it, laid it on the wooden floor in the lounge and lay down on it to test it out, and promptly fell aslkeep!

Was very comfy, which surprised me!
Not sure if I'll get one for me, as I'm the wrong side of 40 and wonder about clambering in and out with my ageing bones <grin>

We are both nearly 50 and have Alpkit Dozers. They are brilliant, warm and comfortable. I can't praise them highly enough.

I have just purchased 2 Regatta camp beds reduced by 25% in Argos, 1 is now up in my living room & i am going to try it tonight.

They are so easy to set up & seem really sturdy too.

I have used just about every type of bed, I get the best nights sleep on airbeds, I know a lot of people either over or under inflate them and that's why they don;t like them! the best tip is to kneel at the side of your airbed, make a fist and push your fist down on th airbed and without to much pressure you should be able to feel the ground below! always make sure you brush the innertents out before putting in the airbeds, otherwise if there's even one tiny stone/grit you might get a puncture!

If you want to use campbeds, always put something under the legs cos if the ground underneath is soft the legs might damage your groundsheet! for a bit more comfort, put a SIM or airbed on top of the campbed!

I bought two gelert 10cm SIM and neither me, my husband or my daughter like sleeping on them.

We found that we are constantly sliding off them and ending up sleeping on the groundsheet - not nice!

Even rolled up as tightly as possible they are huge and take up half our boot space - back to the old airbed!
