Ah yes bit too far to pop into your local store. We have two that are fairly near so I will try tomorrow and see if they still have any. We haven't actually got the trailer yet but we will need it straight away as don't want it stolen before we get to use it...actually don't want it stolen ever!!!

I picked one up on thursday and guess what, the 'universal' hitchlock didn't fit my trailer!!! the arm on the trailer is to deep so the locking pin won't go through. The father in law has one on his trailer tent thats fits great.

I returned it to my local store today along with the wheel clamp which was to large for my 13" wheels dispite what it said on the box. The Trailer wheels aren't as wide as a cars and there was to much slack so you could still access the wheel nuts to remove the wheel while the lock was on.

Shame as the hitchlock seemed quite good and for the price the wheel clamp was a bargain. Never mind. Our local store had a few of each left and loads of the portable sat tv kits, suprised they haven't all gone.

Am I being a bit thick here, but if you were going to steal a trailer, why would you try and steal one when you had to take the wheel off.  How would you tow it away with only 1 wheel ?

I don't actually own a trailer but I think the best thing to do is just take a wheel off and put it in your car boot.  How long would that take, 15 mins ?  :)

Simple really.

Pete.

I bought one of the hitchlocks on Thursday for our Combi Camp. Hubby was so impressed with it that he sent me back to Aldi on Friday to get another one to fit on the camping trailer. Yes, we do need one on each - although the camping trailer sits in the garage when not in use, the Combi Camp sits in the garden with a winter cover on, but if we take the camping trailer away & 'borrow' the hitchlock from the Combi, knowing our luck the Combi will get nicked from the garden while we're away.

Trailer & caravan thefts are rarely impulsive. The joint is cased first to see how the theft can be acomplished. Wheel removal is not regarded as adequate security because the thief can bring a wheel with them. Same would apply if clamped wheel would allow easy wheel removal.

Hi there,

we bought one of these last year for the boat trailler, must say very good.

The thing to say about any security on traillers is the harder it is to steal, the less likely it will happen. I know this sounds obvious but it is true. We therefore have the hitchlock, set the jockey wheel to the highest point then secure the handle and mechanism with a heavy duty chain lock. Each wheel has a motorcycle chain lock through, even so these 4 different items aren't 100% security, but anyone having a go at stealing it will have a lot of noisy work to do before they get it.

Jake

Just check your insurance position, the Aldi locks and clamps have NO insurance rating.

as a deterrent I think they're ok, I bought both, but took the wheel clamp back as it was WAY too big for my trailer wheel. The hitchlock is just an added security measure to my chain and padlock to the floor setup.

The other half is about to take our Aldi wheelclamp back :(  It looks like it would do it's job just fine, but it won't fit to the upper part of the wheel as we can't get it into the wheel arch. We have a Jamet trailer tent.  I'm just hoping the hitchlock fares better.  Actually, my main concern is that the hitchlock must cover at least the first bolt holding the hitch to the drawbar.  Does anyone have dimensions for one?
