Can anyone please help me. I envisage a satellite sending a beam down and encased in this beam are all the channels. Depending on which decoder you have, once you are locked onto the satellite you should be able to recieve all the channels to which you are entitled. I have just bought a Camos Papsa automatic satellite reciever and when its locked onto Astra 2 I can only recieve Channel 4. I can't get my head round it,whether the Camos is no good or whether I'm doing something wrong( most likely) Nigel

Have a look here http://www.ukfree.tv/helpme.php?faqid=2342 , read the text above the sat map pictures , a guess would be your tuning into Astra 2A , and not Astra 2D .

Ill go with wiz.

but just to add, you're almost right, the channels do come down in one beam, and the box decodes them, but there are horizontal and vertical channels (think of the TV aerial, can be horizontal or vertical depending on which transmitter you are using.

If you are nearly on target you may get one set but not the other (ie all the horizontal channels, and none of the vertical ones)

So many options to sort, but first you need to ensure that you are getting a good satelliite feed to your receiver, so a little more info on your dish and LNB set-up would help.

Assuming your feed is good, you could try a scan of the satellite, this way the receiver will update it's channel list, and pull in the missing channels.

Remember the satellite receiver has to control the lnb in 4 ways,  Hi and Low band channels are selected by receiver delivering a 22khz tone to the LNB, either on or off, Vertical or Horizontal channels are selected by the receiver changing the Voltage supllied to the LNB,  all this is done seamlesley, unless the receiver has been configured otherwise.

Like I say, more info needed about your set-up.

I have a Camos PAPSA Pro that can give you 9 satellites to choose from.
I use the Astra 2A the satellite that Sky use & a Humax Foxsat HD decoder which gives me 172 channels inclusive of radio stations.I think the Camos Papsa is a lovely piece of kit that is very easy to use.
