We got ours from ebay (ex REME fella makes these cables up) & it is great as it gives us power to our awning so we can run electric lights, radio / tv etc. At around £20 including P&P it was definitely worth it.

I wouldn't touch one myself. You'd be relying on the camp sites electrical protection or your plug top fuse for your protection as these devises bypass all the electrical protection in your caravan. For example no known RCD and no known MCB protection.
In my view - potentially lethal.

Is the link on ebay I purchased from, the spur for the awning supply comes directly from the caravan mains plug so is fully protected & non-lethal as previously suggested as it uses the caravan fusing system, Now if it came spured from the sites mains that would be dangerous!!

Even though you have connected it at the caravan end the RCD and MCBs in the caravan are only protecting the equipment in the caravan. The hook up lead and spur are only protected by the protection equipment at the hookup pillar. Unless you know that the protection there is adequate then you shouldn't rely on it. Hence potentially lethal. Your choice at the end of the day!

I agree with OliverDay only the spur for the caravan connects to the caravan RCD.Making the awning feeds' protection, site mains protection only and therefore a diligent site warden could ask for it to be removed.
Could of got 1 of THESE
And 1 of THESE
Would of been much safer

Tbf, hookup leads on't continent often include a socket on the blue caravan plug to plug in awning appliances but yes it is the same as taking power direct from site ehu point. A safer option is to have an outdoor 3pin socket installed on outside of caravan.

This is the set up i have just sorted for my dandy awning
as is always said on here better spend a few ponds more and be safe.

Hi. Why not Tee off an existing socket inside the van, and, as suggested above, fit an external socket. In my van I've fitted one in the spare wheel locket which is accessible from the awning. That way, you get the protection of the van's RCD etc.

i use a rcd unit that has five sockets all with own rcd and use one to connect up caravan covered all round

Hi all. Just regurgitating an old thread. The 3 way mains connector referred to in the post quoted above if I were to use one of these would I run my 25 metre mains connector form the electric hook up at the site and then plug that into the three way connector which I would then connect to the van and then run a mains supply unit (as also linked in post above) off the three way connector into my awning? or would I connect it all up some other way.
