My wife and I are due to spend a week down in cornwall at a haven site the end of the month and I have became aware of the front awning which looks v impressive and functional , I am also aware that this will make my tent very big , I would love to get this addition for our tent and take it along , however I am slightly worried that they might not approve of the size and also wether we will struggle to get full use of it due to this reason in the future. Can anyone that has a outwell montanna 6 with the awning please enlighten me and if anyone has any experiences of this I would love to hear how you got on and how you rate it , Thanks guys I know you`ll come up trumps , Rich
we don't own an awning, but i would assume you'd be fine with the awning on any "choose your own" pitch campsite as long as the campsite was a big one...for your own peace of mind tho you'd probably have to contact any site with set pitches to find out whether their pitches were big enough to accommodate you...
I don't have one of these tents but just went camping this past weekend with my brother and sister-in-law, and they do. They just bought the awning and this was the first time they tried it out.
It practically doubles the length of the tent, and makes a lot of room inside (and has a groundsheet which fits on with toggles - my Gelert porch has no groundsheet)
We did n't have any problems with the size of any of our tents (we had three families and three tents) - in fact, practically all the tents at our site were about the same size or even larger than ours!
It was very easy to add on - has steel poles like the main tent, and hooks onto the front of the Montana 6 (obviously all has to be pegged with guy ropes, like the main tent).
They used it for their cooking area and to have their table and chairs in, and the regular living area had the other fold-up chairs and other bits
thanks for you guys getting back to me so quick , I think I will go out and get it , and like most people have said just take it along and if we use it brilliant , if not we have it for our future trips instead , has anyone ever camped at a haven site? ive stayed in accomodation on them but as of yet never camped there
We had a Monty before we had the Van and we too had the extension awning. On the sites we used and still use now the overall tent size was never a problem. On most sites its not the length thats an issue but more the width of your outfit. Funnily enough the Camping and Caravan Club used to use the Monty 6 as a benchmark unit for their pitches until they realised that the side porch made the tent too wide.

We used the monty awning on the front of our bear lake 6 and never had a problem on any sites and it was massive, really good extra space which we used as a kitchen area:
Hi we have the Montana plus awning. Only used it at 2 sites but never been a problem, one of them was a caravan and camping club.
I wouldn't say it doubles the size of the tent, unless my OH is pitching it wrong, but it does double the size of the living area excluding the bedrooms. We use it to store stove, outdoor stuff like bike scooter etc. plus our table and chairs are in there, but these move to and from awning to main tent depending on time/weather/how we feel. Basically so far we've had meals there but at night we've moved table and chairs to the main tent, we have the carpet, so nice to sit on also, with heater then we are heating the area we are in plus bedrooms ready to go to bed.
ah brilliant , thanks for the feedback guys , today i bit the bullet and secured a brand new monty 6 awning for the grand total of £170 feel quite pleased
