On top of the airbed is most important. Even if you're using a quality sleeping bag, some of the heat from your body will escape through the bottom, and when this heat hits the cold airbed it will cause condensation, so the underside of your sleeping bag will feel damp.
We use picnic rugs on the inner tent floor (or a fur rug early & late season), then a fleece blanket & a sheepskin matress cover on top of the airbed - no damp & warm as toast
