I normally have my 2 year old in a bedside cot though she sleeps much closer to me than that, basically on the join between mattresses, she feeds at least once at night.

For camping we have separate sleeping bags but I am wondering if a SIM will be better than an airbed - probably a double and then DH can have a single SIM/Airbed.

What do you do?

When we camp, I tend to share a double airbed with my five year old (she kept falling off of the single airbed and hates sleeping on her own whilst camping!) and my dh has a single which is likely to be upgraded to another double next time as the baby decided that she would rather co-sleep). I tend to chuck a duvet over the top, that way if Lottie makes it out of her sleeping bag, I can easily chuck something over us both to help keep her warm - it works well for us!

I used to co-sleep with my babies up till they were about 8-9 months, because of night feeds. I had an extra wide single airbed and an extra wide cotton backed sleeping bag with no hood. The baby would come in with me on the zip side so I could open it out if we were getting hot, and I had a small fleece blanket to drape over my arm and shoulder where it got left out of the bag. Hubby (who likes a few beers) had his own mattress and later on, when we had older kids, he would share a pod with them and I'd share one with the baby. It saved a lot of disturbance.

I think a double SIM would be good too, especially as your DD has her own sleeping bag rather than sharing one with you. Plus a single for your OH and you can basically all sleep in a row without having to worry about gaps or roll-off. Room enough for another one two if you decide to have another baby! Just remember all the co-sleeping rules of course...I'm sure you're perfectly aware of them.

We tend to sleep with the kids, the boy ( 5yr old ) with me , and the girl ( 3yr old with the missus, mainly so that we know that they are safe.

Never say never... that's how I got my #3, lol. And she was a campsite baby, so maybe you should send your OH to sleep in the other pod with your older ones?

Hi there. We co-sleep at home with our nearly 2.5 year old. At home she has a bed next to mine at at the same height. She goes to sleep in that bed and under her own duvet but she's always next to me or in the middle by morning time. Love it. We're using the double airbed with a single SIM for her. I'll just put her to bed on the SIM in her regular bedding but know that she'll be in the double bag with us in a couple of hours. Body heat keeps us both warm! We're looking at getting a double SIM as have recently got one for my son and it's lots warmer than the airbed. Have fun x

Last year I was co-sleeping with my then 2yo. He had a readybed next to my air bed and we used one of those sleep sacks for him, a sleeping bag for me and a blanket over both of us.

Crazily my 4m old sleeps through the night (5th kid lucky!) so he goes on a sheepskin on the floor in a wool sleep sack (ruskovilla, lovely thin and breathable) with blankets and he could always pop in with us if we needed to as we just got a huge air bed for me and DH or snuggle up with his biggest brother who goes next to him.

We dont co sleep as such, but have many 'visitors' through the night at home, and welcome them to sleep in my bed in order to get some sort of sleep however cramped it is. I have a kingsize bed, a king size fella, superking duvet, a 4 year old and 3 year old twins. We have been known to wake up to at least one child in our bed with no recollection as to when they got in with us, sometimes its more than one but its a squeeze with all three in with us although do-able.

When we first went camping with all 3 kids, our eldest was 2 months off 3 and the twins were not quite 2 yet (but by a few weeks), and we had seporate 'bedrooms'. It was a big mistake as our bed was cosy for us, and their room cosy for them but not warm enough for me to go in there with them and too cramped for them in with us. So we got a new tent with one large 6man bedroom. It does have a toggle in divider but it isnt used. We have a double air bed and sleep in a regular fashion. The kids slept width ways on another air bed, but made sure that i could scooch over and quickly re arrange the bed clothes to accomodate me and one or more kids.

All is well and good untill we have a bed wetter amongst us... erugh!

Co-sleeping again-again with my nearly 9 year old youngest daughter... I thought she had got used to sleeping on her own, but she's back in my bed - and on my matress when camping. She has her own sleeping bag though.
When we use airbeds, I found out that it is much better to have two single ones which I bind together with some long straps I took from an old tent. There is no gap between matresses, and unlike on a double matress you don't get seasick when the other sleeper turns around.
