After recently using our cadac I noticed a smell of gas, the OH said he couldn’t smell anything and it was in my imagination grrrr!, but when he’d finished cooking the bottom of the paella pan was covered in what looked like black soot?

Has anyone else had this problem…. any ideas what could be causing the DEFINATE smell of gas and the sooty pan bottom.. he did check the gas inlet/valve at the time and all seemed fine

I would get in touch with Cadac or where you bought it. Sounds like it has a problem. Do be careful!

Ive just sent my Cadac Carri Chef Delux back for a refund. Hated it.

Too heavy. Too many bits to faff with & carry around. The scottel (wok) was impossible to clean.....

THEN on Saturday we tried the bbq top for the first time. I had the deflector and fat pan on under the BBQ plate as per instructions. Tried to cook small chicken pieces. Within 5 minutes it was all on fire.... the fat pan, deflector and the chicken. I turned off the gas but it continued to flame up for ages. Waited a while then tried again. Same thing - flames leaping out of the fat pan & all around the edge within a few seconds. Soooo dangerous! I had friends round and we were all horrified.

Then it took me 3 hours on Sunday to try & clean it all - BBQ top, deflector, fat pan & the lid. Just would not clean up.

I had wanted a Cadac for ages and was so excited to eventually get one, BUT Ive never been so dissapointed. In my opinion they are total rubbish and I wouldnt go near one again.

Can anyone recommend something else to replace it?

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with yours CamperPam.  I bought mine about 2 years ago and love it.  I use it more at home during the summer than my cooker as I love being outdoors, altho I have to say I have never used the BBQ bit of it, just the griddle thing, roasting dish and the skottle and never had a problem.

There are loads of threads on here about them, have a trawl through and see what people recommend.

Cadac had a duff batch made that made it to the shops.  They had the wrong jets in the burners & needed modification.  Soot on a gas burner is an indication of incomplete combustion.  The result can be Carbon Monoxide given off.  Get in touch with Cadac.  There was a thread on here a while back, I can't remember the outcome though.  In my view they are over rated, expensive & poorly made.

We agree we wouldn't touch Cadac with a barge pole!! Our Cadac caught fire and we are still having problems with Cadac Customer Services even looking into the problem (after numerous emails and calls).    However we have replaced it with a Weber Q120 - used it several times and we are really impressed. Superb quality, really easy to clean and cooks all our food perfectly.

Well my Cadac (older version) cooks very well indeed, low heat with lid on, and I find it very easy to clean. I wont use anything else, I'm so used to it.

Don't think I would buy new now though-too many horror stories about, me thinks they need to sort their act out, and quick.

If memory serves its a faulty insert, there was a bad batch, old ones were black new ones are blue or the other way round. Cadac are aware of it and will send out a replacement a lot of these seem to have ended up a go outdoors.

Still loads more people love their Cadacs people just remember the odd bad review

At around £200, I would hope to be more than impressed, I'd hope it would cook a whole meal for me and serve it with beverage of choice lol

Hi we have the Cadac Safari Chef running on LPG cylinder, and would not be with out it, We have also the roasting pan for it and it cooks a good medium roast chicken in under 70 minutes and large jackets in about an hour. I have found there is nothing i cannot cook on the Cadac, given a little imagination etc.

Cannot commnet on the larger Cadacs though.

Chris W - Glad you like yours but have you tried using the BBQ top on the Cadac? I bought my Cadac to use mainly as a BBQ but as a BBQ it is just dangerous! Catches fire & horrendous to clean. Ended up having to cook the food on the non stick grill plate.... that was the only bit of the kit I was pleased with.

Anyway Cadac have had mine back and Im just waiting for Tesco Direct to refund me now.... hopefully with some added compensation for the extras I had to buy before I could use it, like the gas pipe & regulator. I also bought a Cadac BBQ cover that is now useless. Might try & send that back too.

shawxclan - The Weber you mentioned looks fab but rather expensive.

Im now thinking of getting an electric one. Maybe the George Forman BBQ grill.
Anyone got any good reccomendations?
