Sounds a bit like the one that some continental coach operators use on the back of their buses only on a smaller scale. Depending on price it might take off. Good luck.

If it fits on the towbar.......how do you hitch up a caravan at the same time?

You need to put it on the back of the caravan.

There is a picture of the caravan with the box on.

Interesting product.  Like many good ideas, looks obvious when you see it.

I think I would be more likley to use it if I was going "proper camping" in a car, than I would now with a van.

How about a camping kitchen version?  Something like the folding campers have.  A self contained kitchen to dismount and stand on legs in the awning could be very usefull.

Good luck

Steven

Like that idea.  Wife and I hate cooking in the van.  We have a small three burner/oven standalone setup that we have to drag out and setup, a kitchen version would get my attention - at the right price ofcourse. gg

Just had another look......and found the picture of it attached to the caravan rear.

Is there a towbar fitted to the rear of the van then?

Also.......how would it affect the stability of the caravan (noseweight etc)?

Sorry to sound negative.
On the face of it.....it looks a good idea.

Yes you need a towbar fitted on the van.

I will find out for you about the noseweight stability.

Thank you everyone for the positive feed back.

Still need to find more  agents in the UK.

Regards

This is similar to the boxes that a lot of motorhomers have on the backs of their vans - I think a lot of people have built them themselves.

Looks a good idea for tenters/motorhomers but I don't think it would be a good idea to put one on the back of a caravan. IMHO it would  upset the stability. The only caravans I've ever seen with towballs are showmens. Anyway, why on earth would you want to? The bathroom in the caravan has plenty of space to store the chairs, tables, awning etc.

Bear in mind that they couldn't be used for anything really heavy on a lot of cars because of exceeding the towball limit given by the manufacturer.

Given the choice of this, a trailer or topbox, I would go for the autobox. Less hassle than a trailer & better fuel economy than a top box.

Doesn't look too bad, though I'd probably opt for a trailer as they are bigger, carry more wieght and I doubt there'd be a lot of differnce in price between a new one of those autoboxes and a small second hand trailer. I'm also very surprised (more like disgusted) it being sugested as a dog carrier. There is no way I would put a dog or any animal in one of them things, the animal would have no chance of survival if rear-ended

PhilDG

In some countries they do love the dog carrier for hunting dogs. I do not like it myself!!

There is also the BBQ box which photos I still need to upload. It is in a steel box.

what a dangerous thing to fit on the rear of a caravan, all that weight and extra over hang. ok on a car/van/camper as there is an engine at the other end to balance things out but never on a caravan33

Steve sedona

It is a better fit for a car,van or camper but it can be done on a caravan!

It just depend if you want it for the caravan or not.

Thank you all for your input so far.

Regards,

1st a big car

2nd a trailer

3rd a top box

4 put it on the bac seat

5th autobox

How do you take it off  when its full? How do you push the load to a place you want it if the car wont go there? Much fun backing with a 4x4 you wont see it. All the load must be down weight on the towbar and back end of the car. Its to small. Not for me thanks

1st   I would not put dirty stuf in my big car.

2nd  Some people have on street parking - cannot park the trailer in the road.

3rd  Very easy to scrach my big car with the topbox -  How do you take it of when its full?

4 My family sit on the back seat when I go camping

There is 4 small wheels under the box which you neet to pull out when the box is full to move it around.

The car handle very good with some extra weight on the back. But dont overload it.

Omega99 I know it is not everyones cup of tea  but at least everyone have his own opinion.
