Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has anything bad to say about the Thule 532 roof bike carrier? They seem to be around £45 each, compared to about £75 for the 591.

The 591 is more aesthetically pleasing I guess and looks slightly easier to use with the self adjusting clamp, but I'm 6'2" so that shouldn't be an issue. Does it really offer anything above the 532?

The 532 is the same price as the Halfords Advance as well, so is it better to stick with Thule for the same price?

Confused!!!

Any opinions gratefully received!

We have a Thule Atlantis 250 ... great carrier.
Had a Halfords one before ... no comparison.
Got the Thule on a special offer.

Oooops ... sorry ... mis-read!
Bike carrier ... again had both Halfords and Thule .... found Thule better, though Halfords did the job.
Gave up on carrying bikes on the roof because of the fuel increase (drag factor is huge), and height of rig made ferry crossing and toll roads more expensive.
Now use a tow-bar mounted carrier ... which is safer and much better for fuel consumption.

Sorry a bit late to the party but...

We have tried numerous racks over the years from boot racks strapped on to towbar mounted jobbies and finally settled on roof mounted ones a couple of years back.

We had a pair of Thule 591's as honestly nothing compares in terms of quality and more importantly ease of throwing a bike in them. A strap for each wheel and a big twisty knob to secure frame. Turn the key and the whole thing is locked down.

So good a solution that I've literally just walked in from fitting a third one to the roof.

As a note the cheapest place I've found for new Thule 591s is FordOnlineParts.co.uk where they are under £60 each.

We have some cruz roofrack carriers (£16 each ) from Roofbox.co.uk and they are excellent ,easy to use with straps for the tyres an everything is just twisty knobs ,rather than nuts and bolts ,they are lockable too .

Hi Skittlez,

Are the Cruz ones double locking? Ie Do the bikes lock to the rack as well as the rack to the bars?

Ta.

I've got a pair of the Thule 530 racks, picked them up quite cheaply on Amazon. Seem well made, done quite a few hundred miles with them fitted without problems. They lock to both the bars and the bike.

Can't comment on the racks mentioned but I use the Mont Blanc Barracuda.
Can't fault it, bikes stay upright once in the carrier while you secure them,
quality piece of kit. Got 4 of them, 2 bought new and 2 second hand off Fleabay.
