We are a married couple with two toddlers (2 and 3 years). We have bought our "starter kit" - tent, kitchen etc but I'm stuck on what to buy for our sleeping arrangements.
From what I've garnered via forums etc, the Alpkit Dozer gets really good reviews, but I'm not sure if we will like the mat? Are there any stockists where we can try before we buy as I can only find them for sale from Alpkit online? I'm thinking we would need 3 of them (all of us are sleeping in one bedroom) so that would set me back £180 which is a large amount of money!
HI and welcome. I would not bother with really good mats for the children tbh, they are very light and will likely sleep anywhere, I got a double 3.5cm thick SIM for my boys from Lidl and they love it. I put fleece blankets on top and a picnic blanket underneath for cosiness.
For adults we looked at the Dozers but eventually got a 5 cm Vango one as we can't run to such expensive sleeping mats the same year as we got the tent!
I've got two fat airics(now dozers) and great as they are I recently bought 3x 7.5cm and 2x 5cm vango extra large sims. To be totally honest the I haven't notice any difference in the comfort department however the Vango's were considerably cheaper to buy.
Shop around on the web and there's some bargains to be had.

We just bought the Sportura SIMs from Costco and definitely recommend them. They are 7.5 cm thick and quite wide and best of all they are under £20 each! You can find them on EBay but much more expensive.
Oh and thanks Neil! We went to Go Outdoors today and tried a couple of 5cm ones but they didnt feel very comfy at all? Might end up giving an airbed a go after all...

We went the air bed route to start with but one deflated and the others were just cold we decided to invest in sims. Others have said airbeds work if you insulated them below and above and use duvets etc but with our sims we simply put them straight down with good quailty sleeping bags and nobody has complained about being cold. My eldest(15yrs old) really feels the cold and she slept until we woke her (9am) each morning.
